YSL Summer Splash
Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. Three ways to describe the new YSL Summer Splash collection, which can be broken down into three simple product launches. All beautifully advertised by the stunning Cara Delevingne.
First up, there’s the Rouge Pur Couture Vernis A Levres Pop Water (£26). That’s a new version of their fab Glossy Stain lip colours, of course. These are not just new colours of Glossy Stain, but a new formula, giving you a much more translucent colour than the original. The perfect sheer summer lips – but not as sheer as some. There’s a lot of colour in these.
There are loads of gorgeous summery shades, and I am truly in love with Rouge Splash, a lovely red-coral, sheer shade which looks fantastic with a tan – real or fake! A sheer stain is possible thanks to new technologies, one which helps create that glossy shine with no stickiness, and the other which provides a gorgeous texcture, and moisturisation to the lips.
Apparently these dilute with no remaining particles, giving a fluid dispersal of even colour, and this has been applied to the new Glossy Stain. There are twelve shades in all, four of them Limited Edition. From nudes, to corals, to bright pinks and reds, there is a colour for everyone.
There’s also a Glossy Stain Plump-Up (£26) which adds volume and softness and has hyaluronic acid in it for fuller, softer lips.
“Vernis a levres Pop Water is a new take on the the balance between shine and colour,” says Creative Director Makeup YSL Beaute, Lloyd Simmonds. “One where the transparent brilliance of their reflection keeps the colours modern, bright and pop.
“I love these colours because they are fresh and have a new airy sophistication, thanks to the cutting edge technology that marries their sheer texture with a transparent layer of shine. No fear factor here, there’s a colour that suits every woman.”
Now that’s the lips taken care of, how about summer nails? YSL’s La Laque Couture Pop Water (£19) are these amazing jelly-like nail colour washes.
A collection of four nail varnishes in bright pop colours, which are buildable. Use one coat for a natural effect, two for an understated finish, and three for a more vibrant look. These are great, they look like a jelly colour, and the shades are lovely – there’s Rouge Wet, a red, Fuchsia Rain, a bright pink, Rose Splash, a bold pink, and Orange Drop, a bright jelly orange.
Finally, the Full Metal Shadow (£21). These are brilliant. Metallic eyes are so evocative of the 1970s – a HUGE trend in fashion and beauty this year. So, embrace your inner Bianca Jagger and get some gorgeous metallics on those lids. And with this Full Metal Shadow collection, there are LOADS to choose from! There are 12 shades in total, from icy whites and greys, through a bronze/gold/rose spectrum, to a green and a stunning blue.
I love these shadows – the formula is brilliant. Thanks to great innovation at the YSL Beaute laboratories, the technology developed incorporates a more than 30% high concentration of pigments and pearls into a 40% water based solution. The result is a liquid formula with a very cool, glossy, metallic sheen. The applicator has been designed to follow the rounded shape of the eyelid. So, you just apply straight from the tube. Use the flat and large surface to cover the whole eyelid, or follow the lash line with the pointed tip for a more subtle application.
“I love the colours of Full Metal Shadow because they are extremely easy to apply,” says Lloyd Simmonds. “They slide along the eyelid like water for an intense finish. It’s a quick gesture, which only takes a few minutes. Their shine beautifully enhances the shape of the eye, with a subtle shimmering touch.”
