NEW Laura Mercier Pure Canvas Primer Collection

If you’re going to buy a primer, then you probably can’t get better than a Laura Mercier primer – she basically invented it! Well, she certainly invented the category in the mainstream beauty world.

Now, for 2020, she’s introducing the latest primer innovation – the Pure Canvas Primer Collection. This reinvented range offers breakthrough, good-for-your-skin, good-for-your-makeup primers with unique, water-based, silicone-free formulas that create a breathable, protective barrier over skin.

Laura Mercier first brought primers to market when she launched her eopnymous brand in 1996 – and created the ‘Flawless Face’.  Before that, they were a strictly professional product, available only at theatrical makeup stores. But as a makeup artist, Laura knew the power of the primer and saw an opportunity to make them readily available, and to help educate us all in the art of priming.

Primers are indispensable – They seal in skincare and protect the skin while preparing the face for makeup. As an authority in the complexion category, not only is it in our DNA to bring the best, most iconic skin products to the marketplace, but to also evolve with the most cutting- edge ingredients,” says Alexandra Papazian, President.

“Laura Mercier has always stood for effortless artistry, therefore we’re thrilled to relaunch our primer franchise with a more modern look and feel while offering a multitasking blend of skincare benefits. It is not commonplace for primers to offer long-term results and we’re extremely proud of the innovate silicone-free formulations in this collection.”

The new Pure Canvas Primer Collection consists of five primers and a Supercharged Essence, each formulated to address specific skin concerns. Formulated without silicones, infused with skin-loving ingredients, the products boost priming effects, extend makeup wear and improve skin over time. They provide a breathable layer that seals in skincare and creates a protective barrier from environmental aggressors.

Let’s look at the Primer Hybrid – the Pure Canvas Power Primer Supercharged Essence (£46). This milky essence delivers next level priming with a visibly smoothing and ultra-soothing complex. It melts on to the skin and reflects light. With advanced skincare benefits, this silicone-free formula helps skin look smoother, firmer, and younger. The Pure Canvas Primer Supercharged Essence is formulated with silicone-free emollients to give that lightweight feels, beauty-boosting peptides to help revitalize skin, and marimo pearl, to diffuse and reflect light at different angles.

There are three New Formula Primers in the collection.

The Pure Canvas Primer Blurring (£32) is an innovative, oil-free and oil-absorbing primer that creates an instant mattifying filter and blurs skin’s appearance for a soft-focus effect. The breathable, silicone-free formula seals in skincare and creates a protective barrier that extends makeup wear while helping to control oil breakthrough, so it’s ideal for oily skin. It contains oil-absorbing blurring powders to instantly mattify skin, and diffuse light. Glycerin creates a smoothing, plumping effect so makeup glides on seamlessly, and Microalgae conditions skin over time for improved look and texture.

Pure Canvas Primer Hydrating (£32), is an all-new water-based primer which locks in moisture and helps create that flawless canvas we all want. This lightweight, moisture-rich formula replenishes skin and keeps it feeling hydrated all day. It contains Glycerin to help attract much-needed moisture to the skin, Olive Extract to visibly smooth and lock in hydration. Finally, Marine Hydra Botanicals help replenish the skin’s natural moisturising properties.

Last of the three is the Pure Canvas Primer Illuminating (£32) which will give you that glow from within effect. It’s water-based, silicone-free and will seal in your skincare, and create that canvas for perfect makeup application. It’s formulated with micronized pearls to refract and reflect light, Glycerin to hydrate skin with a smoothing and plumping effect, and Porcelain Flower Extract, which is high in antioxidants, so promotes long-term radiance. It will liven up the dullest of skin, and I think this is my go-to primer in the winter months.

The two original primers that have been reformulated for this new collection are the Pure Canvas Primer Protecting and Pure Canvas Primer Perfecting.

The original Protecting Primer (£32) creates a flawless canvas for makeup application with weightless SPF 30/PA+++ protection. It’s silicone-free and water-based, is exactly the same formula fans know and love, just in fantastic new modern packaging.  It contains non-chalky SPF 30/PA+++ and helps protect skin against harmful UVA/UVB rays. It also has Glycerin in there for that moisture boost, and a Vitamin C&E Blend, to minimise the look of imperfections.

Laura’s original skin-Perfecting Primer (£32) creates a flawless canvas for makeup application. It contains Aloe Vera, which is an anti-irritant and will soothe and calm the skin, as well as Vitamin C, which is a skin-loving antioxidant that helps minimize the look of imperfections, and Green Tea Extract, another powerful antioxidant which protects the skin from damaging effects of the sun and the environment.
