MAC Lunar Illusions Collection

2 min read

The Lunar (Chinese) New Year begins on January 25, and it’s the year of the Rat. MAC’s Lunar Illusions collection celebrates the fact that the new year starts on a new moon, with a spirit of refreshed vision, perspective and possibility.

Ushering in good fortune, the beginning of a lunar cycle allows everyone to phase into the future while seeing everything in a new light – and that includes your make up bag!

The 12-piece Lunar Illusions collection is really beautiful and is all about creating new traditions and discovering fresh inspiration in beloved favourites, remixed in new palettes and pairings.

This New Year is all about taking the products you love from the past into the future. Change is good, but not always easy, and this collection offers new colour combinations and textures that are practical but can also work for the professional. As a makeup artist, this collection inspires me to create looks that are timeless with a take on future trends. Face forward. – Regan Rabanal, Senior Manager of Makeup Artistry.

The limited-edition decorative packaging of  Lunar Illusions reflects the intricate patterns of blue, pink and peach seen at the ancient Forbidden City. The range includes an Eye Shadow x 9 palette (£28) that combines pretty pinks, sky blue and golden tints to impart a moonlit glow to lids, a Blush Duo (£28) that pairs coral-toned Modern Mandarin and rosy Pinch O’ Peach,  four shimmery Lipglass (£17) hues, and Lipstick (£19) in four shades of red – the luckiest of all Lunar New Year colours.

Collectors will be over the moon for this collection’s gleaming Extra Dimension Skinfinish (£30) embossed with the image of a dragon – a new MAC must-have treasure.

The lipsticks are my favourite – Cockney is a sheer yellow red with multidimensional pearl,  Marrakesh is an intense orange brown, Ruby Woo is a vivid blue red, Ruby Woo Tokyo – also a vivid blue red, and  Dark Side, a deep burgundy.

The Lunar Illusions Collection is available now exclusively at Selfridges and mac.co.uk
