New sun care from Clinique

3 min read

Clinique launch two new sun care products this month – one body, one face, both high protection. The SPF30 Anti-Wrinkle Face Cream is more of a skincare than sun care product, and the SPF30 Virtu-Oil Body Mist is already one I am looking forward to using.

So, lets start with that one. The new SPF30 Virtu-Oil Body Mist (£25) – it’s a bit of a name, I know – is sun protection made easy. It has the same feel of a dry body oil, in a lightweight, oil-free formula, provides 3:1 ration UVB/UVA protection. (UVB protects from the harmful rays, and UVA from the ageing damage the sun can do).

It absorbs instantly, leaves a cooling sensation. and the easy spray bottle means less mess, and reapplication at any angle, even upside down. This I look forward to testing out!

It’s 100% fragrance-free, as all Clinique products are, and that does bother me a little bit when it comes to sunscreen – I like those that smell, you know? But perhaps they attract wasps and other insects!

The key ingredients in this are Homosalate and Octisalate, chemical sunscreens that absorb UVB rays and protect skin against immediate sunburn, and Avobenzone, an oil-soluble ingredient that absorbs the full spectrum of UVA rays that cause long-term sun damage to the skin.

The new SPF 30 Anti-Wrinkle Face Cream (£18) will help fight the battle against those harmful UVA rays that cause premature ageing. You can use a normal sunscreen on your face, but a specific face sunscreen is better, and if it has skincare benefits, even better still.

But try to use your normal moisturiser, and then this, don’t use a moisturiser with SPF, because it becomes less effective when its in the cream, according to many experts.

This new face cream/sun cream hybrid  contains chemical sunscreens Octinoxate and Octisalate to help absorb the UVB rays, and Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide working to deflect both UVA and UVB rays, and helping prevent those lines and wrinkles.

The barrier repair, and antioxidant ingredients are sunflower seed cake, barley extract and cucumber fruit extract – a complex which works at the skin’s surface to protect and rebuild the moisture barrier function, vitamin e, an antioxidant, RNA fragments to help clean up and repair skin-ageing damage that comes from things like stress and environmental assaults.

Apply this liberally 15 minutes before sun exposure, and then keep reapplying at least every two hours.

Both new Clinique suncare products are available from May 26 at Clinique counters, and clinique.co.uk

I as researching a Daily Record feature last week on budget suncare – you can read more about that on my blog here – and one product that came into my inbox was this cute little credit-card sized tube of sunscreen from a brand called Theye. The Sunscreen SPF30 Micro Spray (£2.99, theye.co.uk) offers both UVA and UVB protection and contains tyrosine to stimulate and strengthen your natural tan.

And it’s totally portable obviously, so good for a short break. However…you do need to apply a lot more sunscreen than you probably do, so this might not be an entirely practical buy. But it’s fun, right?!
