Swell Ultimate Volume Haircare

3 min read

I’ve always had ‘big’ hair. Because it’s curly, it sort of grows out the way and not down the way. But, after years of bleaching and colouring, straightening, and well, just generally mistreating it, my hair can be a bit fine, a bit ‘breaky’ and a bit lacking in volume in the right places.

I was sent the full range of this Swell Ultimate Volume hair care to try – and their latest product, a Curl and Bounce Tonic (£25) and I’ve pretty much fallen in love with it.

Swell Haircare

What I love most of all is that it has told me how to wash my hair properly. After 44 years on this planet, I have learned that shampoo really only needs to be massaged into the roots – anything ‘foamy’ on the ends will dry it out. It kind of makes sense, if you think about it.

So, take the Swell Ultimate Volume Shampoo, and massage into your roots. Then, follow with the Advanced Volumizing Conditioner, and massage that into the mid-lengths and ends (I did know that!). The Swell products are tailor-made yourself – you decide how much to use, and how long to leave them in, depending on the length and condiotion of your locks.

After these two steps, it’s Swell step three – using the Advanced Root Nutrient Complex. You spray this onto your roots at the parting, and then another four times across your whole head.

That’s the three step, guaranteed to swell your hair. I added a fourth step with their Ultimate Protect & Renew Serum, because my hairdresser basically told me to load my poor hair up with products before I blow-dried, or look like a frizzball. She didn’t actually say that last part, but I know that’s what the message was…!

The results? Actually phenomenal! My hair was big – it really did grow in volume, but in the right places. And it feels brilliant. It feels so much smoother and in such a great condition, and it’s been a while since my hair had felt like this.

The three step is available as a set, for £79, and also as a travel-size set for £23.50 if you want to try it.

I’ve not tried the Curl and Bounce yet – I’ve had too many hair products to trial recently (I know, it’s a hard life..), and I don’t like washing my hair every day.

But, I am assured it will also amaze me with its volumising properties. I can’t praise this haircare range enough, and, if you know me, you will know it is not often I praise haircare. I’ve used one brand for years, and I am very hesitant to try new things, but I am glad I gave Swell a go.

There are a few other products – a weekly masque treatment, and a dry shampoo which I reviewed last year on here

It also has great endorsements from Guardian beauty writer, Sali Hughes, so if you don’t take my word for it, take hers!
