Perfume for Christmas?

3 min read

It’s maybe not the most original gift to give or receive, but who doesn’t love a new fragrance? I definitely do, so, for your pleasure- and mine – I’ve been expertly sniffing a few of late that you may want to buy for someone special (or yourself!) for Christmas.

Fist up the DKNY Be Delicious Sparking Apple Limited Edition Collection, three gorgeous new takes on the Delicious fragrance, in the cutest of packaging. Sequin patterned boxes reveal glittery-topped apple shaped bottles. The three Christmas variations include the Be Delicious Sparkling Apple, with green apple, redcurrant, watermelon, frozen rose drops, violet leaves and sandalwood and amber in it. It’s a lovely fresh citrus scent. The pink Fresh Blossom Sparkling Apple is a festive blend, with a sparkling neroli accord, crisp apple, tangerine and pear, with rich white woods and ambrette seeds and musk giving it depth. Finally the  gorgeous gold Golden Delicious Sparkling Apple, playful and sensual, with grapefruit, cassis, spicy ginger root , apple, of course, and sandalwood again. I like this one the best. All are £37 for 50ml, exclusively at The Fragrance Shop.

In a tall purple bottle, with the sequin patterned box in purple is DKNY Women Sparking Fall EDT. Grapefruit, blackcurrant, plum, roses, olibanum and pink pepper mix with Tonka Beans and Patchouli to create a sparkly, easy to wear fragrance. It’s £41 for 100ml, exclusive to Superdrug

For men, Aramis Adventurer EDT is  for the new generation of the Aramis gentleman. Sophisticated, with a sporty edge, the fragrance opens with a blend of freshness led by citron and bergamot, with black pepper, geranium, lavender and absinthe at the heart. There’s patchouli and cedarwood in there too, and this is a light yet dramatic scent. From £29 for 30ml, it’s available at Aramis stockists nationwide.

The latest BOSS fragrance for women is BOSS MA VIE Pour Femme, as advertised by the gorgeous Gwyneth Paltrow. This is a bright and zingy floral that will take you right back to summertime, with it’s Cactus Blossom, Pink Florals, Rose Bud and Cedarwood. The bottle is a gorgeous pink shade, and it comes in three sizes, from £35, at Boss stockists nationwide. For the guys, there’s a Collector’s Edition of BOSS BOTTLED by Hugo Boss, in a sleek gunmetal grey bottle, or flacon, as they like to call it.

This one didn’t go down too well with the men in my life, but Gerard Butler loves it! It has fruity citrus top notes of plum, lemon and apple, and spicy notes of cinammon and clove at the heart, but the vanilla shines through, and perhaps gives it the sweetness that my partner and dad weren’t keen on.But it’s been around for 15 years, so hey, what do they know?! Available now, in two sizes, from £41 for 50ml.

Tom Ford’s Patchouli Absolute Private Blend is probably one of my favourite fragrances in years. I am addicted to it. Everyone comments on it when I am wearing it. Tom Ford loves Patchouli, and uses three blends of the scent here including a breakthrough iteration of patchouli called Clearwood, used for the very first time in perfumery. Mixed with bay leaf and rosemary, moss, violet wood, cashmere woods and tonka bean and leather, it creates a magical scent. From £142 for 50ml, from Tom Ford Private Blend counters, Harvey Nichols, House of Fraser.

Finally, from Fendi comes Furiosa! In a bottle designed by jewellery designer, Delfina Delettrez, the fragrance is a bright yellow colour, encased in a jewel-like case. It comes in three sizes, and is a sensuous amber floral woody EDP, created, apparently, in tribute to the ‘Fendi woman’s wild yet sophisticated femininity’. It had a heart of wild Violaciocca Flower whcih is wild, spicy, sensual and warm. Top notes of pink peppercorn, and bergamot blend with Gardenia and jasmine Absolute, and the dry-down is woody with hints of amber. It’s quite an unusual one this – the heart is super-sweet. I didn’t think I loved it at first, but I definitely do! It’s available exclusively at Harrods, this one. Comes in two sizes, £66 for 50ml, and there are body products to match.
