Written by Simon and Agnès and wonderfully illustrated by Chicago-based Plastic Crimewave, this book gives readers a fascinating insight into the truth behind sourcing such a precious commodity as sandalwood and Lush’s Buying Team’s journey as they scour the world for a sustainable and ethical source.
Launched at the same time as the book are two new Lush products. The Smuggler’s Soul fragrance is inspired by the story of Veerappan. He was an Indian smuggler who was wanted for the murder of more than 120 people, the poaching of over 200 elephants and the smuggling of millions of dollars of sandalwood, before his death in 2004. Simon and Agnes’s investigations into the Indian sandalwood oil they were purchasing for Lush, led to the creating of this dark, mysterious scent, which comes in perfume, solid perfume and body spray formats (£9 solid perfume, £18 & £54 10ml & 50ml, £20 body spray).
And, also inspired by Veerappan, Lush launched Veerappan Moustache Wax (£10). Veerappan, known for his trademark handlebar moustache, would have probably used this sandalwood fragranced wax to keep his ‘tache in tow. Packed with castor oil, candelillia wax, Japan wax, rose wax, and two types of sandalwood oil – this will keep your ‘tache perfectly groomed.
