Clarins NEW Super Restorative Day & Night Cream

Clarins have renewed their Super Restorative Day & Night Cream with Organic Plant Extracts and relaunched them. This range is aimed at menopausal skin – or as Clarins put it “mature skin challenged by natural hormonal changes due to the ageing process”.

Women have challenges throughout our lives, aren’t we lucky! The menopause is a huge one, and it can affect our skin structure, and cause us to have to change our skincare routine. Clarins may give it a fancy explanation but they don’t  shy away from trying to understand the intricacies of ageing skin, particularly at the time of menopause.

In the five years following menopause, skin loses around 50% of thickness and collagen production falls by 30 to 35%,” explains Caroline Debbasch, Clarins Diretor of Scientific Communication. “Thanks to a combination of nature and technology, we’re able to compensate for the absence of hormonal influences and encourage skin to function at its optimum capacity. No drama – just a normal skin phase.”

Leading up to, and during, menopause, your complexion can become  drier, less plump and more lined. Losing density at dermal layer is due to fibroblasts not working as efficiently as they used to. So, Clarins address this with specific products, using technology and botany.

Their Super Restorative Day Cream has been renewed with organic plant extract, Harungana. Ten years after the cream was originally launched, the cream now goes a powerful step further with Harungana.

Used in Madagascan traditional medicines to treat wounds, this plant extract has been shown to work 40% more effectively than retinol on the synthesis of collagen. This is good news for menopausal skin. Skin cells which lose oestrogen become spindle shaped, instead of star shaped. Harungana helps restore the cell structure, reducing those deep wrinkles and skin slackening. Brilliant!

The Super Restorative Night Cream has been renewed with organic plant extract Montpellier Rock-Rose, and this targets our old favourites -age spots!

Clarins, in partnership with the National Institute for Health and Medical Research have done extensive research into the age spots, and what causes them. Two physiological characteristics whichh cause them are lengthening of the dermo-epidermal junction and the accumulation of Melanocytes, the cells responsible for the production of melanin.

Clarins has discovered that the presence of ageing fibrobasts are responsible for these two changes. Montpellier Rock-Rose has been scientifically proven in helping target these changes, and, in doing so, reducing those dark spots. Hooray for beauty science!

Clarins carried out their own extensive research on their new creams, and discovered that after the women who used the cream reported significant improvements in skin density, skin slackening, wrinkle reduction and age spot reduction, figures for the latter a whopping 48.9% after just two months. Hydration was also hugely improved – by around 42% after just 14 days.

These creams have light and melting formulas, smell amazing, and treat menopausal skin with a bit of pampering and luxury. They are available for all skin types, and very dry skin.
