Aveda Heart Lands AW13 makeup

I really, really love the campaign images for the new AW13 Aveda Heart Lands limited edition makeup collection. There are two gorgeous looks – one called Field Rose which blends warm shades and creates an ambient glow that envelops the eye, with a warm, autumnal, matte lip; another called Winterberry which is all about luscious plum lips and porcelain skin, subtle eyes.

I tried to recreate the former, but the eyeshadows just didn’t give me the pigment I wanted, which was a bit disappointing. The lips are gorgeous though, and if you want a subtle smokey eye, the golden shadows are enough.

The collection has two lovely Nourish-Mint Smoothing Lip Colors in Redwood and Sweetplum – creamy and hydrating with carmine-free pigments, two Rehydrating Lip Glazes in Winterberry and Honeytree, two lovely Lip Liners in Red Petals and Plum Petals, and six gorgeous Petal Essence Single Eye Colors.

To create the Field Rose eyes, I used Antique Gold in the inner corners of my eyes, and then Ginger Root along the bottom lash line and up to the eyebrow across the lid. I felt it didn’t give me the depth of shade I wanted, which was a bit of a shame. I kind of think all I have achieved is a bruised eye look! Anyway, it’s lovely make-up, and the lip colour is an alternative to my normal red.merleaveda

For the Field Rose lips, use the Nourish-Mint Smoothing Lip Color in Redwood BEFORE the liner. Smudge it on, then use the Red Petals liner on top, to create a matte effect.

It worked beautifully.  If you have never tried Aveda makeup before, give it a go – the formulas are lovely, great ingredients, and the Nourish-Mint lips are minty fresh!
