Shu Uemura launch The Lightbulb Foundation

Brace yourself BB Cream lovers, for the foundation backlash! Never mind the CC Creams – which are coming, in numbers – the humble old foundation is hitting back! Lots of brands are releasing new, innovative, foundations this season, look out for a slew of them come October-time.

One of the first to land on my desk is from Japanese brand Shu Uemura. Called The Lightbulb, it promises glow – with extra coverage.

It’s an intriguing prospect, because most foundations that give luminosity are not high coverage. But, whatever the science behind this it seems to work. It’s not dewy – let’s not go that far. But it is quite light, for a high coverage foundation, and for my dry skin it is also surprisingly moisturising. Their use, they say, of ‘oil technology’ means that you will glow in natural light, or indoors. So, day and night.

It comes with this fancy looking application sponge – tap it on with the big end, and use the small end, they say, for sebum soak-up – not that I have much of that.

When the autumn comes around, and especially into winter, I do tend to prefer a bit more coverage. It’s also good to protect your skin even more from the harsh elements of a Scottish winter – rain and wind are not our skin’s friends.

This Lightbulb foundation comes in 12 shades – go and be matched in store, rather than buy online if you can, as being a Japanese brand, their shade palette is very different to other European brands. There are more pale shades. I have been using 584 Fair Sand, which by no means looks one of the lightest on the palette, but matches my complexion pretty well.
