Emotional Brilliance from Lush!

Remember once upon a time there was a makeup brand called Be Never Too Busy To Be Beautiful? What a mouthful! They were part of the Lush group, but they stopped trading a few years ago. Since then, Lush haven’t venture too much into the makeup market – until now.

Later this month they’ll roll out their new cosmetics line at stores nationwide, and it’s a little bit different. Emotional Brilliance It’s all about matching your psychological needs to what colour cosmetics you should be wearing, at any moment. It contains lip colours, eyeliners and eyeshadows and isn’ trend-led, but designed for you, and how you feel. So, the products are named things like Confident, Take Control, Glamorous, Sophisticated, etc, and you will be drawn to them when you need it.

Lush has worked with Strategic Behavioural Therapist Lady Kennedy, who specialises in changing people’s behaviour and attitudes, for the list of words. The concept is based around a colour wheel – you choose three colours that stand out to you at that moment. Your first colour choice symbolises your Strength or Weakness, your second choice represents your Subconscious Need and the third is your Talent. How much fun is this?

There are 30 products in the range – all are vegan. I was sent a few samples, but I was really happy with two of them – the Liquid Lips in Passionate, a rich bold pink I would be drawn to, and the Liquid Eyeliner in Fantasy, and amazing gold. I wouldn’t have chose the Cream Eyeshadow in Sophisticated, a sort of neutral beige, so I am not wearing it in the picture below – but I can say the formula is brilliant.

The cosmetics are £14.50 each. The Liquid Lips went on beautifully, and stayed on all day, through coffee and lunch with just a little top up. The Liquid Eyeliner is amazing – the pigment so rich, and the drying and staying power really good.

There are also supplemental products to the range which I have tried out. The Eyes Right Mascara in Black (£12) is very gentle, won’t irritate, and didn’t smudge badly at all, but there wasn’t maybe enough coverage for me. And, also, I did find this really tricky to apply with the little wand being too small length-wise. I’m not one for powder, but I needed it the other night, so I tried the Translucent Face Powder(£12) and it was really excellent, completely got rid of any shine, felt amazing, and didn’t dry at all. I love it.

I also used the two Lush Skin Tints (£12) here for these pictures. Under my eyes I used Feeling Younger which contains ‘magic orange’ pigment working as a reflector. It really did work on my dark circles which were a bit pronounced after a late night. I then used Charisma, a blend of golden colours to wear under makeup on my cheeks, my chin and tip of nose. I think it added some lovely colour.

I was really impressed with all of these Lush products, and I really didn’t expect to love them as much as I do.
