Face (Mask) the new year!

Happy New Year! The papers are full of detox tips and reviews right now…isn’t January just awful!? But forget diets and the gym for a minute and concentrate on detoxing your skin.

The harsh weather, central heating in our homes over the Christmas break, late nights, and yes, the over-indulgence of food and drink will have affected our complexions as well. I saw in 2012 with the arrival of two lovely spots on my chin!

It’s an ideal time to book in for a cleansing facial or a relaxing massage, and 5pm Health and Beauty have plenty of those to offer, and many of them included in the big January sale.

But, if you want to add something to your regular beauty routine to help  as well, then I’d recommend a mask. Here are five to choose from, for different types of skin, and for different problems with your skin.

1.Chanel Hydramax + Active Moisture Mask (£36, houseoffraser.co.uk) I adore the Hydramax range, as I have quite dry skin. If you are suffering from dry patches, or dehydration, then incorporate this into your weekly beauty routine between one and three times a week. It’s rich creamy formula adds instant moisture back to your skin. You can use it at night, to allow it to work more deeply.

2.Guerlain Orchidee Imperiale Mask (£226, houseoffraser.co.uk) Wow, yes, that does read £226! This is surely the King of all face masks! Out on January 15th, this mask is anti-ageing, and contains Guerlain’s mazing Imperial Orchid Molecular Extract. Apply a light layer with the brush to boost the skin’s vitality, and then use different massage techniques, explained with the cream, for draining and decongesting, or energising the skin. It’s the most luxurious home facial you’ll ever do!

3. The Body Shop Blue Corn 3-in-1 Deep Cleansing Mask (£9, thebodyshop.co.uk) Does what it says – deep cleanses, exfoliates and purifies. For Normal/Oily Skin, this can be used up to twice a week. You simply apply, leave for 10 to 15 minutes, and rinse it off. Your skin will feel cleansed thanks to the blue corn powder and kaolin.

4. Melvita Purifying Mask (£18, wholefoodsmarket.com) This mask works to balance skin by regulating sebum production and deep cleansing your congested areas. Contains 10 per cent green clay to help refine the look of pores and remove that sebum. Also contains Tea Tree, Aloe Vera and Green Tea. This is as refreshing as they come! Suitable for blemish prone skin.

5. The Body Shop Warming Mineral Mask (£9, thebodyshop.co.uk) Don’t you just love masks that warm as you apply them? This feels fabulous, warms the minute it hits your face. Gorgeous mask, containing seaweed extract and kaolin, to cleanse and absorb excess oil. You just leave it on for five minutes, and your skin feels velvety smooth and clean. Use once or twice a week after cleansing. Can be used for all skin types, but if you have very dry skin, or are suffering from seasonal dehydration, I wouldn’t recommend it.
