Body Exfoliation for Winter with 5pm

4 min read

I tend to become obsessed with exfoliating in the autumn and winter months. It’s like I just want my poor, tired skin – on my body and face – to glow, and indulging in a bit of exfoliating always helps!

LUSH recently gifted me two products for my body – one of them an old favourite, the other a new-to-me style of exfoliator, in the form of a semi-spherical solid scrub.
The Easy Peeler (£5) is a naked product – and one that I would say is best used in the shower, but don’t let the shower water run over it too long. Scrub it all over, then rinse off. It blends Sicilian mandarin oil, bergamot and tangerine oil, extracted from the peel of citrus fruits and are perfect for improving the mood and lifting your spirits.
Granulated sugar gives an effective scrubby texture ideal to smooth the skin, and there are cocoa and shea butters in there to help smooth the skin.  There is also some apricot kernel oil, mango butter and orange peel wax added to the mix, which will ensure your skin is left feeling comfortable and protected. It’s properly orange – you will smell of it, but I didn’t find any staining on the skin.
The Ocean Salt Face and Body Scrub (£20, 200g) is an old favourite. My husband and I both love this scrub. It’s made of limes, steeped in vodka, grapefruit and lashings of salt, and it is an invigorating scrub you can use on face and body. If you have sensitive skin, just use a little, make sure the skin is damp and don’t overdo it.
Sea salt is rich in minerals and is excellent for scrubbing and buffing skin. Lush has also added rich, silky avocado butter, coconut oil and seaweed absolute to keep your skin soft, smooth and conditioned. This is the original scrub, but Ocean Salt is now also available in self-preserving form, which means it stays fresh without the need for synthetic preservatives and an alcohol-free formula as well.

There’s something satisfying about scooping out a big handful of scrub from a tub, agreed? These two are super-indulgent but delicious!

Le Couvent des Minimes skincare is vegan and 100% natural. It contains seven legendary botanical oils inspired by the travels of botanist Louis Feuillée – Hemp Seed, Kukui Nut, Moringa Nut, Hibiscus, Evening Primrose, Passion Flower and Sandalwood Oil. The Precious Gentle Body Scrub (£32, lookfantastic.com) delicately exfoliates the skin with fine golden sugar crystals encapsulated in these oils. botanical oils. Dead skin cells are removed, and the skin is left beautifully soft and scented.

MOR Pomegranate Sugar Crystal Body Scrub (£23, feelunique.com) is enriched with perfecting pomegranate pearl and conditioning blackcurrant, rosehip and neroli oils. It gently polishes and moisturises the skin.

This is one of those products where you start with the base and add what you want – I kinda like these, brings out the Harry Potter fan in me – come on, who wouldn’t be a wizard making magic potions given half the chance?!  Emulsion gives you that chance with skincare tailored to your needs.

The website has a mix and match function – you pop in your skin concernsns, and likes, and the site throws up all the options you might like.  The Emulsion Cream Scrub Base (£18) is a sweet and salty scrub that will leave you feeling lighter than air. Mix it with the Powder Exfoliant (£8) to soothe and moisturise skin, thanks to Turmeric, Ginseng, Marshmallow, California Poppy, Green Tea, and Aloe.

Or add the Seeds Exfoliant (£8) to boost your skin and give it a wake-up shot thanks to Coffee Grinds and Blonde and Dark Psyllium Seeds. Buy the products at emulsion.co.uk
