Sporty Beauty

2 min read

I’m not really very sporty. I like to watch sport, but taking part? Not really me. However, I have undertaken a charity thing this summer which means I have to run. A lot. (You can find out more about that here if you want)

Now, being a beauty writer, editor, and, above all, fan, I am not one for just getting up and heading out without my lipstick in when I hit the pavements. Oh no. I like my lipstick on. Sometimes a lip balm underneath to keep my mouth moisturised. Always a lippy.

I also pop on a wee bit of mascara sometimes, and I’ve tried two ‘sporty beauty’ mascaras of late. CliniqueFIT Workout 24-Hour Mascara (£14) is fab. It’s one of those tubing mascaras, so you just need water and fingers, or water and a cotton pad to get it off. But whilst running – and sweating – it doesn’t budge. And it gives really great coverage as well, and is just like a regular volumising mascara.

The Body Shop’s Lash Sport Waterproof Mascara (£11) is a regular waterproof mascara, and is a bit difficult to get off – you need a waterproof eyemakeup remover for this one. But, disappointingly, it did smudge a wee bit out there on the roads. Not great, but not the worst.

Sunscreen has been key when running in a heatwave, particularly on my face. 2.Darphin’s Soleil Plaisir Anti-Ageing Suncare SPF30 (£32, darphin.co.uk) is lovely. Smells great, goes on a treat, and SPF30 is decent protection, although SPF50 is more my thing usually, and it does come in SPF50 too. It’s fab for sensitive skin, and contains anti-ageing ingredients to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and age spots – includng hyaluronic acid –   and vitamin E to strengthen and repair skin.  Enriched with karanja oil which provides omega 9 fatty acids, it feels lovely on the face.

I was recently sent a fantastic product from 3.Algenist – Hydrating Serum in a Mist (£28, Space NK). Yes, it’s not an essential, again, but I like Algenist as a brand, and I have enjoyed using this in the summer heatwave.

It provides hydration on the go, sets makeup if you need that done, and refreshes and protects. After running, a quick squirt cools down and hydrates. It contains mineral-enriched sea wter and sea fruit extact, with Algalyte Complex and gives excellent hydration. Keep it in the fridge and use after a run, or after makeup application.

1.L’Occitane’s Aqua Reotier Fresh Moisturising Mist (£14) is perfect after a run – or anytime in the summer heat – for a hydrating and refreshing boost. It’s pure  Réotier spring water with added hyaluronic acid to hydrate and energise the skin.
