Summer Beauty Part 1

3 min read

It’s summer – does that mean a complete overhaul of your beauty cupboard? Well, okay, maybe not, but it definitely means time to indulge in something new for the season – even if it is just a bronzer.

There are TONS of gorgeous summer products out there – and many of them holiday essentials – for hair, face and body. So, today’s post features some of my faves for the face, and next week we’ll cover hair and body.

I’m a pale person. I don’t generally tan that well, and I am not a fake tan fan, or a lover of bronzer. So, summer beauty can be difficult. But there are some great products out there to give you that little bit of luminosity or glow, without looking full on teak wardrobe or mahogany sideboard.

I do love a bit of sparkle in the summer (and winter, and spring, and autumn, heck, who am I kidding? Anytime is sparkle time here!), and there are plenty of lovely products to indulge that love available in the summer months.

Let’s have a wee look at some of my favourite summer beauty bits.

1.Clarins Summer Bronzing & Blush (£30) is a lovely subtle bronzer. It’s actually a set of  a set of three matte shades with an iridescent coral blush tone, in a gorgeous, big compact.

2.Algenist Reveal Concentrated Luminizing Drops Duo (£22, Space NK). I adore these. This cute little duo contains the Rose (glowing pink) and Champagne (illuminating gold) shades of this lovely serum that adds luminosity to your skin. (There is also a Pearl (highlighting silver) shade in full size) Mix with makeup, or moisturiser, or apply directly to cheekbones, bridge of nose, and brow bones. They give brilliant radiance.

3. Maybelline’s Baby Balm & Blush (£4.99, Boots) Maybelline’s is super cute, and perfect for summer. There are loads of shades, this one is Shimmering Bronze, which adds just a lovely hint of sparkle to cheeks and/or lips.

4. Clarins Truly Waterproof Mascara (£21.50). The shade is intense black, and it works. I love this mascara. It gives great colour and it stays put. Perfect if you don’t like going to the beach or pool without it.

5.Filorga UV-Bronze Hydra-refreshing anti-ageing sun mist (£29, Marks and Spencer) This stuff is fab – it’s essentially a facial suncare product, in mist form, with anti-ageing technologies. How can it be wrong?! It’s SPF50, so high UVA and UVB protection, and it gives you a lovely cooling feeling as you apply. Apply over makeup, or under.

6. Bobbi Brown Peace Love & Beach Eye Trios (£27). There are three of these sparkly, lovely trios to choose from  – Peace (ocean-inspired blues), Love (shimmery, sandy shades), and Beach (bronze/gold beach shades). Perfect holiday eye makeup!

7. Laura Geller Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator (£21, Debenhams). This is the Gilded Honey shade of this hybrid texture which applies like a sheer powder, but feels like a cream. It gives you a wash of luminous colour, and reminds LG of Italian gelato. Which is another holiday fave!

KIKO Milano have so many collections for summer, there are too many products to choose from! I love the packaging on their chunky Lips & Cheeks from their Summer 2.0 collection. It’s normally £10.90, but they have a summer sale on, so grab it now for half price. This shade is 05 Mirage Hibiscus, a bright matte, which is great, as usually these two-in-one products are too sheer.

Also from the KIKO Summer 2.0 collection, how about this for something a wee bit different on holiday? This is their Matte Lipstick in Desire Turquoise (£8.90). One for the unicorn fans on instagram. That’s me wearing it at the endof this post, and it is a wee bit scary! There is also a deeper blue shade called Dreaming Iris. Both are limited edition, and selling fast!
