Elizabeth Arden Always Red Femme

2 min read

When I see fragrances that are a version of others, I feel a little cheated. So, I guess I feel cheated in the perfume world, a lot then! There seem to be so many of them around, and Elizabeth Arden are the latest to introduce Always Red Femme.

They already have Always Red, now, meet Always Red Femme. This is how Elizabeth Arden describe it:

“This new scent was expertly crafted for the trendsetter who is always on the move and sets the pace of the city. Through her black silhouette with accents of leather and lace, this city girl is unabashedly feminine and boldly takes an all-or-nothing approach to life. She’s ready for everything the city has to offer—and more.

Where do they get this stuff?! Sometimes, it cracks me up. And there’s more.
The new Always Red Femme reflects the passionate spirit of feminine boldness,” says Perfumer Celine Barel, International Flavours & Fragrances  “It reflects the energetic zeal of the New York woman of today. She wears multiple hats and balances it all with passion. This fragrance is a statement of fearless femininity and strength with grace.”

WOW. So, what’s it like? Well. it’s a floral fragrance, so immediately not my favourite, but that’s a personal thing. It opens with top notes of blackcurrant budm pear and lemon, has a heart of peach blossom, jasmine, davana LMR1 (this is a scent founded at the International Flavors & Fragrances naturals facility in Grasse) and muguet – which is French for Lily of the Valley.

The base is vanilla, moss, cedarwood and patchouli – nothing overly exciting or different there.Like Always Red, the original, this is an EDT, and I am not a fan of EDT’s either – unless they are a really light summery scent, and I don’t mind them fading after a while.

However, there is nothing unpleasant about this fragrance, I just find it a wee bit old-fashioned, right down to the packaging with the purple and the flowers on it.

Always Red Femme EDT, available in 30ml, 50ml, 100ml, priced £27, £38, £54, from September, from Elizabeth Arden counters nationwide and elizabetharden.co.uk
