Happy Hands with Hand Cream!

3 min read

My mum always had a tube of handcream kicking about when I was growing up, and I love the stuff. There’s something soothing and ritualistic  about rubbing cream into your hands, one, two, ten times a day. With hand psoriasis, hand cream is a vital item in my handbag/on my desk/beside my bed.

I love trying new hand creams, and these days they don’t just hydrate or soften – they are full of anti-ageing goodness too, combating the dreaded age spots, and keeping your hands – which age relatively quickly – youthful for longer.

So, here are a selection of hand creams to keep your hands happy and youthful!

1.Clarins Age Control Hand Cream SPF15 (£22. clarins.co.uk). Clarins classic Hand and Nail Treatment has been selling consistently since 1979. But this is their multi-tasking hand cream – using plant extracts to fight ageing in your hands, and SPF15 to protect them from the ageing rays of the sun. French Grape Extract slows down the production of melanin, and this cream deeply hydrates as well.

2.Emma Hardie Hand and Nail Treatment Cream (£24, spacenk.com). Made with a luxurious and intensive formula, containing Shea Butter and a derivative from botanical alpine plants that helps to lighten and gently fade out imperfections and age spots, this is anti-ageing hand cream at its best.  It also contains Keratin which helps to strengthen the nails, whilst the properties in the Inca Inchi Oil from Peru provide intense hydration and conditioning to tired and rough hands. And it smells delicious, thanks to orange, jasmine and rose essential oils.

3.Estee Lauder New Dimension Smooth + Tone Creme Glove (£30, esteelauder.co.uk). This does what it says – smoothes and tones. I’m told it’s for the back of the hand, this one. Which is perhaps a bit neglected in my case. I don’t find it as hydrating as I would like, but it’s more about helping skin look plumper and firmer, thanks to an advanced pro-collagen complex.

5.Lush Helping Hands (£7.95, lush.co.uk). A lovely soothing cream with honey, shea and cocoa butters working togeter to moisturise, whilt almond oil softens. A linseed mucilage is used to form a protective layers and nourish the skin. And Chamomile water and lavender oil are added to sooth your hands and calm down any redness.

6.Alpha H Protection Plus Hand Cream SPF 50+ (£35, lookfantastic.com). This is an Australian brand, hence the factor 50. Im not sure we need this on our hands here, all the time, but if you want to protect them, and you want a cream packed full of antioxidants, and anti-ageing ingedients, with huge protection, then this is definitely it.

7.Soap & Glory Sugar Crush Hand Food (£2.50, Boots). a little tube of cute cream – maybe not the most effective, but it’s perfect for in your handbag and on the go. Contains shea butter, macadamia oil and marshmallow, and has a mojito fragrance, which is DELICIOUS!

9.Murad Youth Builder Rejuvenating AHA Hand Cream (£24, feelunique.com). I highlighted this in my ‘yellow beauty’ feature last week, and it’s a king amngst anti-ageing hand products. It contains Glycolic Acid to gently exfoliate and even skin tone, and botanical extracts, rich in hyaluronic acid for maximum hydration.
