Touche Eclat Neutralizers

YSL launched three Limited Edition Touche Eclat Neutralizers earlier this year, and I have just got my hands on the Vert Green version.

Neutralizers are complexion correctors – toners that eliminate the tones we don’t want on our skin – redness, pinkness, sallow tones, that kind of thing. Back in the day it was swirly neutralizing powder pearls that I remember first using.

Things have moved on heaps since then, but the basic principles remain the same – use the right neutralizer to get rid of the wrong tone!

Colour correction is very much a pro trick, one which has been readily used in theatre since makeup began, says Lloyd Simmonds, Creative Director, YSL Beaute. “It helps to create a three-dimensional effect on the skin, eliminating certain things, and embracing others.

Let’s have a look at the three YSL Neutralizers. There’s No1 Abricot Bisque, which will add a sense of warmth and health to the complexion. Apply this apricot-hued neutralizer in the same places you’d apply bronzer – to cheekbones, a touche of the centre of the forehead, and to the underside of the jaw – if you’re in need of a boost.

No3 Violet is lilac, which tricks the eye into making the complexion look brighter, so use this tempered lavender tone to cancel out any sallow or yellowish shadows under the eyes, returning this delicate area of skin back into balance. Add a little to the inner corner of the eyes, and under the brows to brighten.

Finally, No2 Vert Green. This mint shade is ideal for blanketing over areas of redness or blemishes on the cheeks, nose, chin or forehead. Use this before foundation, to avoid laying too heavy a layer on.

This is the one I have been trying out, because this is the problem I have. My cheeks are a high-flush nightmare. One glass of wine, and I am bright red. I flush all the time, and I have a few seemingly permanent red blemishes at the side of my nose.

This works. I’m not a massive Touche Eclat fan, but I do like this, I like the ease of application, the green tone is perfect for my skin, and the flush in my cheeks didn’t seem as bad when I was wearing it. Result!
