Clinique Chubby Foundation & new Boots No7 base

2 min read

I LOVE a new foundation. I love wearing a base, and have absolutely loads of them, for all different occasions, times of year, climates, etc. So, I’ve been happily trialling two brand new bases for the last few weeks.

First up, and on counter yesterday is Boots No7 Beautifully Matte Light Foundation.  I’ve been using Cool Vanilla. And I love it. It’s a matte foundation, oil free, and I expected not to love it, to be honest. But it glides on, has the loveliest velvet feel and it looks fantastic.

No7 Beautifully Matte Light Foundation

It’s a matte foundation that isn’t heavy. It isn’t powdery, it isn’t flat, but it does give a lovely, medium coverage. It contains oil-absorbing powders, and ingredients to help balance oily skin, but even though my skin is dry in parts – the complete opposite – I have found it perfect for me! The original Beautifully Matte Foundation has been reformulated, so it wears better than before, and blends more easily. It gives more coverage than its new light version.

Up next, and one I’ve been waiting on since Christmas when I first heard it was coming, Clinique’s chubby foundation. Chubby in the Nude Foundation Stick, to give it the full name, is just brilliant. I love a good old-fashioned foundation stick – it reminds me of the panstick from the 70s and 80s.

But, this is not a panstick as you would imagine. There’s nothing cakey or heavy about this. it’s unbelievably easy to use, the colour I’ve been using, Intense Ivory, is perfect, and I can’t rave about this enough! You can use it on areas of the face, to conceal, or all-over for a light and natural coverage.

A matrix of spoft polymeric gels and waxes provides long wear and keeps the colour true. It’s moisturising  thanks to vitamin E, and it contains a blend of coconut-fatty-acid to provide that creamy, effortless application.

Clinique say you should apply 2-3 horizontal lines across the forehead, one down the nose, 2-3 across the cheeks, and one across the chin, and then blend downwards and outwards. I’ve found using less than this works for me.

Clinique have launched their new Buff Brush (£23) to buff the foundation in, and I do think using a brush to blend this in works brilliantly. The new Chubby foundation comes in ten shades.

I just love the ease of this product. The ‘Chubby’ brand is just a genius thing – it’s the adult equivalent of a pencil case full of crayons – a makeup bag filled with all Clinique’s chubbies!

Clinique Chubby in the Nude Foundation Stick, £23, is available from April 1 at clinique.co.uk, and on counters nationwide from April 15.

Boots No7 Beautifully Matte and Matte Light Foundations, are on counter, and at boots.com as of March 16, £14.50 each.
