Whilst it’s always great to celebrate new launches in the beauty world- and there are more than enough of them to do that on this blog every week – there are some cult beauty products we just love to celebrate. Classics that have stood the test of time, maintained their best-selling status, and products that many of us couldn’t live without. So, let’s celebrate one every week!

ELIZABETH ARDEN EIGHT HOUR CREAM

Cult Beauty - Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream

Elizabeth Arden created EightHour® Cream Skin Protectant, to give it its full name, in 1930. That’s 85 years ago! That’s as old as my husband’s granny. And, like her, it’s still going strong in 2015!

And, like her, it has evolved since 1930, and has a huge family of its own. There are now almost a dozen Eight Hour Cream products, including the latest, the All-Over Miracle Oil we blogged about last week.

The cream was so effective in its debut, that Miss Arden used it to sooth her thoroughbred horses’ bruises. And did yoy know that the name, Eight Hour Cream, takes its inspiration from a loyal customer who claimed that the cream helped to heal her son’s scraped knee in just eight hours.

Models, makeup arists, beauty editors, bloggers, and everyone else inbetween love Eight Hour Cream. It’s the recipient of 22 beauty awards, and is a consistent seller for the brand

So, what is Eight Hour Cream? What is in this apricot coloured balm with the quite strong, and strange smell! (There is a fragrance free version) Well, it’s an old product, so you can imagine that the ingredients are of a time, and you’d be right.

It contains Petrolatum – or Petroleum Jelly – which gets a bad name from many, but Petrolatum is a universally acknowledged intensive moisturiser which soothes and protects, and locks moisture in the skin.

It also contains Salicylic Acid, a beta hydroxy acid pioneered by Elizabeth Arden all those years ago. It gently exfoliates to encourage smoother skin, and is used in many beauty products now.

Finally, Vitamin E, which acts as an antioxidant to help protect the skin from free-radical damage. It is easily absorbed by the skin and has soothing properties. Again, it is a popular beauty ingredient to this day.

So, what can this multi-tasking balm do? I love it. I use it on my hands, my face, dry patches, my nails, my legs and my eyebrows. Elizabeth Arden have this comprehensive list of eight uses:

1 – Skin Saver: Protect skin from drying wind, central heating and air-conditioning. This skincare multi-tasker soothes, restores, calms and helps relieve minor skin irritations including roughness, redness, chapped, cracked or dry skin.

2 – After-Sun Soother: With its legendary soothing and moisturizing benefits, it’s the ideal after-sun treatment to relieve minor sunburn and calm dry, irritated sun-exposed skin.

3 – Shine Factor: Found in top makeup artists’ kits worldwide, this all-in-one beauty tool adds shine to eyelids, cheeks, lips and legs.

4 – Eye Opener: All it takes is a dab to smooth eyebrows and create a perfectly defined arch that will stay in place all day.

5 – Cuticle Conditioner: Soften rough, dry cuticles to keep them smooth, supple and beautifully manicured.

6 – Treat for Feet: Smooth rough heels and soften soles for barefoot beauty in every season.

7 – Flight Tool: Flying can leave skin looking and feeling dry and uncomfortable. Take along this intensive hydrator to boost skin’s in-flight moisture level wherever you go.

8 – Leg Wear: Calm irritation, reduce redness after shaving or waxing to leave legs super smooth and silky soft.

Not bad for a little tube of cream, right?
