Tom Ford Noir AW15 Makeup

I have to confess that I love a dark festive makeup collection. I’m not a huge fan of pale at the best of times, but when the weather turns, and the nights get shorter, and we all start thinking about our festive parties, I think a good old smokey eye, a lot of glitter, and a bold red lip are the perfect makeup for the season.

So, I was thrilled to see the Tom Ford Noir Holiday collection was all dark, sexy, and moody. Inspired by this signature fragrance, Noir, the emphasis here is on dark, but not just black, more dark navy blue to be precise, with a nod to festive sparkle, with glitter and gold shot through.

The focus of the collection is the eyes. There are four new products for a smokey festive eye – the hero product the Cream and Powder Eye Color in Night Sky (£50). A new shade of this eye duo, the cream is a dark black with, the top a black/midnight blue powder shade with multi-coloured glitter.

I have to say this eyeshadow is a wee bit of a let-down. The cream colour is really dark, but the powder just seems to disappear on application. I tried it out, but then recreated a similar eye – and a better one – using Bobbi Brown’s Long Wear Cream Shadow Stick in Midnight (£21) and MAC’s Dazzleshadow in Let’s Boogie (£18) – I cannot get enough of that eyeshadow, the glittery pay-off is FANTASTIC!

So, combined they cost less than this Tom Ford eye duo, and, whisper it, they’re better – sorry Tom!

However, he does redeem himself with the fantastic Eye Defining Pencil in Navy Black (£29), which has silver pearl to reflect the light. It’s creamy and gives a lovely colour. There are two cute Tom Ford Lash Tips Mascara (£35), in Pure Cobalt and Burnished Gold, and I have seen similar before from Chanel – a nice playful, luxury item.

Tom Ford Waterproof Extreme Mascara in Noir (£39) is brand new – they’ve never done a waterproof mascara before, and it is interesting they have brought it out at this time of year, and not in the summer.

With the eyes being so dark, the lips are kept light for this collection. I love to wear a dark red with my smokey, glittery, eye, but I know that a nude lip works brilliantly. This lovely Tom Ford Lip Color Matte in First Time (£42) is a good nude for this look. And finally, on the nails Tom Ford Nail Lacquer in Black Out (£30) – an onyx-black shade with little blue pearls, giving it a metallic feel. It’s great, but when it chips after two days, I get riled.
