Fifty Shades of Grey beauty

Yes, that movie is released this weekend! Finally, the Fifty Shades of Grey fans get to see Christian Grey on the big screen. And it gives us an excuse to explore a much-maligned shade – grey!

Grey is a great shade in beauty. Makes a brilliant base for nail art, gives excellent smoky eyes, and, well, okay, that’s about it, but I love it! And there are so many shades of grey – more than 50 even!

Clarins Ombre Matte Eyeshadow in Sparkle Grey (£19, clarins.co.uk) is a gorgeous, deep grey, with just the right amount of sparkle. Urban Decay offers two single grey Eyeshadows (£14, urbandecay.co.uk), Oil Slick is a deep grey, and the appropriately-named-for-a-50-Shades-of-Grey-themed-feature, S&M, is a paler shade. Combined, they will create a great start to a smoky grey eye. Of course, you could go for an eyeshadow quad of lovely grey shades to create this look. Clinique’s All About Shadows quad in Smoke and Mirrors (£28, clinique.co.uk) goes from lightest grey, to a deep charcoal shade.

Japonesque’s Shades of Grey palette (£18, johnlewis.com) is a mix of matte and shimmer; light and dark. Use the shades on their own for a wash of colour, or all of them for a deep smoky eye. Marks and Spencer’s Limited Edition Quad in Grey Mix (£7.50) is similar, if you want a bargain buy.

Add a sweep of grey eye pencil to accentuate that smoky eye, or on its own for a change to back. Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Oil Slick (£15.50) is a deep grey, whilst Clarins Crayon Khol Long Lasting Eye Pencil in Platinum (£17) is a classic grey shade.

Grey nails look great. It’s the perfect neutral shade; add a little shimmer to glam them up. Marks and Spencer’s Limited Collection Nail Polish in Storm (£4) is a deep, dark grey, whilst The Body Shop’s new Colour Crush Nail Colour in Gorgeous Grey (£5) is a warmer, lighter, grey. Michael Kors Nail Polish in Seduction (£15.50, escentual.com) is a gorgeous, mid-tone, shimmery, grey.

So, that’s our 50 11 Shades of Grey in beauty terms – what’s your favourite?
