Clinique Sonic Cleansing System & Facial Soap

2 min read

I sort of missed the bandwagon on the facial cleansing brushes. I think it took me so long to even embrace a proper cleansing routine (bad beauty journalist!), this was just a step too far! However, I was sent a Clinique Sonic System Cleansing Brush to try, I was a little scared. Clinique launched this a few months ago, and it has been phenomenally popular. They’ve also just launched the Clinique Foaming Sonic Facial Soap to go with it.

The brush looks great, and, according to those who have used the popular Clarisonic, is much lighter to use. It certainly weights nothing, and wins on design and ergonomic front. It’s easy to use, but I do find it all a bit odd. You start off using this for just 30 seconds, for the whole face.

It’s really a few seconds on each part of the face – the white part of the brush is used flat for forehead, nose and chin, the green part of the brush tilted, for getting into those tricky bits of the t-zone. You are supposed to pop a coin-sized amount of the wash onto the brush, but I prefer to apply it to the face, and then use the brush.

You don’t need to apply any pressure. The sonic vibrations combined with the unique brush configuration gently massages skin, loosening stubborn dirt and oil more effectively than hand washing, improving the overall health and condition of skin.

It has a self-timer which turns off after 30 seconds, so you can’t overdo it. And don’t! Afterwards, my skin felt really tingly, particularly on my cheeks, but I did feel thoroughly cleansed, and my moisturiser went on beautifully.

The brush is waterproof, so you can use it in the shower, which is brilliant in the morning. A single charge gives you three hours of battery life, so that’s going to last a long time!

The facial soap is a cream which turns into a foam, and contains a gentle cleansing agent derived from Coconut Oil, Sucrose and Caffeine, known for calming and soothing, and Glycerin, a humectant to help prevent drying. I have dry skin, and skin which can be easily irritated, and whilst I am not a fan of Clinique’s 3-Step, I don’t mind this brush or cleanser at all.

Clinique Sonic System Purifying Cleansing Brush, £79, Replacement Brush Head, £20 (you should replace every three months), and Foaming Sonic Facial Soap, £16, all available at Clinique counters and clinique.co.uk now.
