Boots No7 launch Match Made Lipstick Service

3 min read

Mmm. This is one beauty launch this week that saw a raised eyebrow in your beauty blogger. Boots No7 Match Made Lipstick Service reminded me a little of ‘having your colours done’, my absolute first pick for Room 101! I despise everything about this philosophy.

Who on earth is anyone to tell me what colours I should be wearing, based on my skintone and hair colour. It flies in the face of everything I believe about fashion being an expression of your personality, and an extension of art. But that’s for another day.

Boots match made lipstick service 1Okay, so, down off my soapbox, I had a wee look at this Match Made Lipstick Service. I’m still not sure it will, as Boots No7 claim ‘revolutionise the way women buy lipstick’. Er, we’ll still have to go into a shop, look at the colours, and choose the one we like, no?!

Well, yes, but Boots No7 consultants will help you – in the larger stores where the service is available -by analysing your skintone, and then suggesting a range of lip colours, perfect for you. This is where I can feel myself getting a bit ranty again – who says I can’t wear a blue-toned red? And don’t you think I know that that pure nude just isn’t for me?!

Anyway, apparently, Boots say that women tell them finding the perfect lipstick colour is one of the biggest beauty challenges they face, so the No7 Colour Scientists (yes, they exist!) have spent years, apparently, painstakingly creating the No7 Match Made Lipstick Service resulting in 43 lipstick colours that have been specifically designed to complement one or more of the No7 skin-true foundation shades.

Ah, you see, here’s the interesting bit. So, once your skintone is analysed, you can buy the foundation and your lipstick at the Boots No7 counter. Clever, huh?

So, the No7 Advisors, once they have sorted out your skintone, have the knowledge to suggest lipstick colours to flatter and suit each complexion. The specially formulated lipstick colours are grouped into six colour families: Light Pink, Dark Pink, Plum, Coral, Red and Naturals and are available in No7’s much Boots no7 match made lipstick service 2loved Moisture Drench (£9.95) and Stay Perfect (£9.95) formulations.

The colours for the No7 Match Made Lipsticks were chosen by identifying 60 colours that flattered one or more complexions, the No7 Colour Scientists then assessed the impact of each of these colours, by testing them on a selection of women with different ages, different hair colours and different skin tones. Any colours that were not obviously flattering were discarded, leaving 43 new colours that really give the complexion a lift.

There has been a lot of thought put into this, and those Stay Perfect No7 lipsticks are actually brilliant, so I’m going to let them have this one, No Room 101 for you yet, Boots No7. But just don’t try and match my clothes to my hair, or else!

The No7 Match Made Lipstick Service launches on the 3 September 2014.  This revolutionary new service compliments the current No7 Match Made Foundation Service (launched in August 2012) and the No7 Match Made Concealer Service (launched September 2013). Visit boots.com for more info.
