Bobbi Brown's Smokey Nudes

2 min read

It is fair to say that Bobbi Brown has embraced colour in the last few years. But nudes are her thing. And I do wonder how she consistently manages to reinvent the nude look, and come up with best-selling new products, that are, essentially just a twist on the last.

The latest nudes range from Bobbi for this AW14 season is Smokey Nudes.

So, it’s a sort of lighter version of a classic, dark, smokey eye, as Bobbi explains: “I created this collection for anyone who has ever been intimidated by the classic, dark, smokey eye. Lighter, but just as dramatic, this smokey nude eye look is easy to create, and wear. Contrary to what many might think, smokey eyes don’t always have to be created using black and charcoal shades.”

The collection has three new products – and eye palette, a shimmer brick and new creamy matte lip colours. Let’s start with the Smokey Nudes Eye Palette (£48), the hero of the collection. Housed in a smoked-out  tortoiseshell case – a nice touch to make this stand out from the rest of the Bobbi packaging, this is a double decker stack of eight eye shadows – everything you need to create your own nude smokey eye. It contains Watercolor Pink Sparkle, Cream, Nude Beach Metallic, Naked, Smokey Brown Metallic, Woodrose, Smoked and Silver Brown Sparkle eye shadows.

The Shimmer Brick (£32.50), always a best-seller, comes in the same smokey tortoise compact, this new shade, Sandstone, gives your cheeks a wash of warm, sandy pink colour.

The four Creamy Matte Lip Color (£19.50) shades are Pink Nude, Warm Nude, Soft Nude and Nude. These are beautiful and perfectly complementary to the smokey nude eye. Use Bobbi’s Smokey Eye Kajal Liner (£18) and Smokey Eye Mascara (£22.50) to complete the look.

Bobbi used this smokey eye look at the Misha Nonoo Fall ’14 New York Fashion Week show earlier this year, and explained how she created it.

For the Misha Nonoo show we used the new Eye Palette, paired perfectly with a natural matte complexion and a nude lip,” says Bobbi. “I began by applying a light shadow, like Cream or Naked from the lashline to the browbone, and then dusted medium shade, Smoked, on top. I added shimmer with a wash of Silver Brown Sparkle to help open the eyes.

“Next, it was Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Granite Ink along the upper lash line – essential to creatin stand-out eyes. I completed the look with a nude lip that just subtly enhanced the model’s natural lip colour.”

For Kate Upton’s campaign look, the eye was more dramatic. “To add drama to Kate’s look, I wrapped Noir Smokey Eye Kajal Liner and Smoked shadow around the whole eye, and applied Smokey Eye Mascara to her lashes.”
