Staff Review: Wedding Makeover
This week at 5pm Health & Beauty, we’ve been gearing up for wedding season. When it comes to wedding hair, make up and nails, there are loads of options to choose from. And whether you’re a bride, bridesmaid or just a guest, you want to look your best on the big day.
Spoiled at Twisted Sister
Unfortunately there are no brides to be in the 5pm office. So when Twisted Sister salon offered to give one of us a wedding makeover – complete with hair up, make up and bridal nails – it was up to me to be the guinea pig. (It’s a tough job but someone’s got to do it).
Twisted Sister is a stylish salon based in Glasgow’s Merchant City. It’s ideal for a bridal party – converted from old stables, it’s a gorgeous building with curved ceilings and separated section in the back for privacy. The salon has hair, make up and nail facilities so all the treatments can be done under one roof.
The girls spoiled me rotten, pouring me glasses of Prosecco and handing me plates of cupcakes while I got pampered. I tell you something, I could seriously get used to this.
Boho or Glam Hair?
Stylists Courtney and Marj were originally planning to give me a boho festival bride look but instead decided to make my hair more glam as they thought it suited my face shape better. They curled my hair using GHDs and pinned it up at the back, sweeping my fringe over my forehead.

Natural Wedding Make-up
Make up artist Natalie went for a bold look with my make up, giving me bright eyes, cheeks and lips. All the products she used were MAC, apart from Benefit mascara. I particularly loved the plum colours on my eyes and the black and white liner she used. How I wish I could recreate this at home.

Bridal Pink Shellac Manicure
Bethany gave me a Shellac manicure in a bridal pink colour, complete with Swarovski crystals on the ring finger for a hint of bling. It was the first time I have ever had Shellac on my nails and Bethany told me I would be amazed by the results. She’s right – despite showering, eating and going about my daily life, the nails (and crystals) are still flawless.

I walked into Twisted Sister my drab everyday self and waltzed out feeling like a movie star. Same time next week?
