Beauty Bargain of the Week - Dr Bronner's Soap

2 min read

We can all spend a fortune on beauty products, but we don’t need to. Every week, I’m going to bring you my ‘Beauty Bargain of the Week‘  – a product I’ve used, and would recommend, and that, on most occasions, costs less than a fiver! What’s not to like!

This week’s Beauty Bargain is a real multi-tasker AND a celebrity favourite. Apparently Gwyneth Paltrow, Natalie Portman, Drew Barrymore, Sandra Bullock, makeup guru Bobbi Brown and, er, Eminem, love Dr Bronner’s Magic Soap.

It’s the USA’s No1 selling natural soap brand, and it’s now available in TopShop stores across the UK (well, Oxford Circus store, and selected larger stores).

You can do all sorts with it  –  clean your body, your mouth, your teeth, your fruit and veg, your bathroom and kitchen, your clothes and even your pets! It comes in eight ‘flavours’ – Peppermint, Lavender, Eucalyptus, Citrus, Almond, Rose, Unscented Baby Mild, and Tea Tree (which can even be used to treat minor cuts!).

Dr Bronner’s story is fascinating – an immigrant in the USA, his family left behind in Germany were killed in the Holocaust, and he embarked on a mission to spread this message of world peace and the dangers of communism and fascism by giving public lectures – which saw him end up in an asylum in Chicago.

He escaped and continued lecturing, whilst creating his original Peppermint Magic Soap.He gave it away during talks, and started writing his philosophy on the bottles, for folks who hadn’t been listening! These eccentric labels, featuring musings on everything from Hillel to Confucious, are still used today.

It’s certified Fair Trade, completely organic, and just £4.99 for a bit 236ml bottle. You can also buy it at asos.com and kinetic4health.co.uk, and read more at drbronner.com
