Super Suncare

Okay, I know, we've had more rain than sun of late, but there are moments when it shines (today is a good day, yeah?!), and if you are off on holiday soon, you will need this super suncare guide! Following on from last week's facial suncare post, it's the turn of your body this week Don't leave home/hotel/apartment/tent/villa without sunscreen. And make sure you take enough to last you the duration of your holiday with proper coverage. You need … [Read more...]

Facial suncare

Gone are the days of just slapping on a bit of your bottle of sunscreen onto your face. If you really care about your skin, then you should invest in a tube or two of dedicated facial suncare when you head off on your holidays. You should probably wear an SPF daily anyway, to keep ageing at bay - those UVA rays are harmful too! It's the UVB rays that burn, so when you are heading to the beach, remember to take suncare that protects from UVA and … [Read more...]

Lush launch sun care

Lush have just launched their sun care and, of course, it'd not like any sun care you will have used before. It's innovative, natural and I can't wait to try it out properly on holiday in a few weeks. There are five products in the new range - Million Dollar Moisturiser, Lifesaver, The Sunblock, Sesame Suntan Lotion, and Powdered Sunshine. I am most intrigued by The Sunblock (£8.95). This is an SPF30 sunscreen, in a block form, which you use in … [Read more...]

Summer SPF time – from Clinique and Clarins

Okay, so the weather has turned a wee bit rubbish today after a gorgeous  Easter Bank Holiday weekend, but summer is coming. Trust me. It will be here. I know this because it's that time of the beauty calendar year again when all my email subjects have 'SPF' or 'UVA/UVB' in them somewhere! First up this week was Clinique's new Even Better Dark Spot Defense SPF45, which is formulated with 100% non-chemical sunscreen, providing high-level UBA/UBV … [Read more...]

Ask Merle!

So, you may have noticed that there was a chance to 'Ask Merle' on the 5pm Health and Beauty Facebook page last month. This will be a regular thing, every month, so if you have any beauty questions you want answered, then please do look out for the Ask Merle FB post, and get asking! This month's question came from Liz who asked "I can never tan my legs properly, and I'm going abroad soon! Any tips?" I think Liz was asking about that age-old … [Read more...]

Suncream Reviews – National Sun Awareness Week

Sunday marks the end of National Sun Awareness Week, and whilst it might not seem something that you think about when we hardly see the sun in Scotland, don't be fooled. The sun is wonderful, but can be damaging to your health. On a recent holiday abroad, in blistering temperatures of 29 degrees Celsius and upwards, my skin felt great - my dry patches eased up, my dermatitis was gone. We have become a little afraid of the sun in recent times, … [Read more...]

BB BB cream!

Yes, they're still around - there's no end to the BB cream trend. The latest one is from Bobbi Brown, and I love it for one thing alone - it has an SPF35 in it. Now that we are actually getting some sunny (and hot) parts of days at least, I'm very careful to use an SPF. You should use one on your face all the time, but I know how hard it can be. You've applied your foundation, it doesn't have an SPF, and that's that. Now, if you have been on … [Read more...]

Take care in the sun

The sun is out - and it's set to hang around all week if weather reports are to be believed. Isn't it a wonderful thing?! Just makes everything seem better. But...treat the sun with care because it can be a terribly damaging thing as well - particularly to fair, Scottish skins! Scotland has some of the highest skin cancer statistics in Europe (thanks to our pale skins, and the over-exposure to UV rays on sunbeds), and far too many of us still … [Read more...]
