Be a Makeup Master with 5pm…or cheat!

It's fair to say I am addicted to BBC's makeup reality show, GLOW UP: Britain's Next Make-Up Star. It's on on Wednesday nights on BBC1, presented by Stacey Dooley, with excellent judges, uber makeup artist, Val Garland, and MAC Senior Artist Dennis Skinner, and if you love makeup, you will love it. It's all a bit car-crash TV at times - some of the application is, well, not great - I'm being kind, it's awful!  But it's a perfect reality show … [Read more...]

Do you Double Wear?

Did you know that Estee Lauder's Double Wear foundation is the UK's No1 base? Well, now you do! I had to reacquaint myself with this classic base, so I recently had an appointment on counter in Edinburgh's Harvey Nichols, to have a Powermap facial, and to be shade matched - this base comes in over 60 shades for all skintones. You can book appointments for Lauder counters online, but I did notice on the site  that Harvey Nichols wasn't an … [Read more...]

MAC Electric Wonder Collection

How pretty is this MAC packaging? All lovely pink and marbled, it's a beauty bloggers/influencers delight! The new Electric Wonder collection is inspired by nature - those amazing electric storms we see more and more of here in the UK these days. It's a simple, classic, MAC collection with palettes, lipsticks, lipglass, and lots of swirly powders and bronzers. And fab brushes. The marbled packaging has lightning flashes, and is … [Read more...]

NEW Luxe Lip Lacquers from Tom Ford

It's been ALL about matte lips for, ooh, forever, it seems. And if it's not matte, it's super-shiny. Tom Ford has recently launched a full new collection of 20 Luxe Lip Lacquers - half matte, half vinyl, giving you both options. I've had a good old play around with these on counter, and they are great. The pigment is excellent - the matte is softly matte, and the vinyl is high-shine, but not in a glossy way. Tom Ford describes it as a … [Read more...]

Elizabeth Arden March On for UN Women

International Women's Day has been and gone, but that doesn't mean the empowerment of women is ever off the table. Did you know that Elizabeth Arden herself provided red lipsticks to suffragettes marching down Fifth Avenue in New York? Me neither, but that's kind of cool. Earlier this month, Elizabeth Arden announced its March On Pink, the next phase of the brand's signature philanthropic campaign through a $1million pledge to support UN Women … [Read more...]

Coral Crush on the Pantone Colour of 2019

Every year Pantone announce a 'Color of the Year'. For 2019, it's Living Coral. A colour with an eco-message too - the living coral around the world is sadly diminishing, so it's a reminder to us whenever we see it to be more eco-aware. The colour itself is a gorgeous coral shade with golden undertones. It's kinda peachy, and quite difficult to pin down. It's super-spring like, and as we head into spring, I've been having a look at some Living … [Read more...]

Bobbi Brown x Lulu Guinness Pretty Powerful 2019

Bobbi Brown launched its Pretty Powerful campaign for 2019 last week (On Friday, International Woman's Day). This year, for the first in a few years, they've launched a different product, and it's a collaboration with Lulu Guinness. Originally launched in 2013, the campaign has raised in excess of £250,000 to date, which has enabled the Smart Works charity to open an additional six centres across the UK - there are now centres in North and West … [Read more...]

NEW Cheekleaders from Benefit

Benefit has just launched two new Cheekleaders palettes that have a sneak preview of products that will launch later this year. The Cheekleaders Pink Squad is a 5-in-1 Blush, Bronze and Highlight Palette, and the Bronze Squad is a 5-in-1 Highlight, Contour and Bronze Palette. As ever, the packaging is super-cute, and there are handy tutorials in the boxes, which also have decent-sized mirrors inside. And both palettes include new products … [Read more...]

NEW Dr Feelgood from Benefit

Benefit has launched a Mattifying Powder in its Dr Feelgood range, for those who prefer a powder to a balm. The original Dr. Feelgood Mattifying Balm has been on counter for some years now, but mattifying balms can be tricky to work with, I'm told. The new Dr. Feelgood Silky Mattifying Powder is much easier - it's a loose powder that will minimize shine, set you makeup and control excess surface oil. My skin tends to be on the dry side, if … [Read more...]

Lash Love with 5pm Deals

It was National Lash Day on Tuesday (Feb 19), did you know? Not quite sure what that entailed, but let's celebrate it a little late with some lash love. Who doesn't love a mascara? And maybe hate it at the same time - it can be one of the most frustrating beauty products. My current favourite is a Clinique mascara that is now discontinued, and I am at the very end of the last tube I bought on eBay. I am gutted! These are the best-selling and … [Read more...]
