Pancake Day Lemon & Sugar Beauty

2 min read

It’s Shrove Tuesday – time to eat all the pancakes -and then give something up for Lent, if that’s your thing. So, I thought I’d have a little bit of fun with my favourite pancake toppings – lemon and sugar –  and find some beauty buys inspired by that combo.

LEMON

Let’s start with three luscious lemon products from Lush!

Bohemian Soap (£5.50) is a simple lemon soap that might bring out the arty part of you – it will start your day with a citrus bust anyway, thanks to lemon oil. Lemony Flutter Cuticle Butter (£9) is a blend of mango butter, fresh lemon and shea, and is perfect for softening the hardest parts – knees, elbows, heels, brittle nails and cuticles. The Montalbano Shampoo Bar (£8) is super-citrusy and will make your hair shine. Green olives improve the tensile strength of hair whilst cleansing rosemary absolute, Sicilian lemon oil and freshly squeezed lemon juice make hair gleam from root to tip. Gorgeous.

I would love to be on Tenerife right now, but if Les Couvents des Minimises Santa Cruz (from £65 50ml, lookfantastic.com) takes me there, that will have to do! This lovely fresh fragrance evokes the warmth of the Canary Islands, thanks to top notes of lemon, bergamot and grapefruit, a middle of coriander, eucalyptus and sage, and a base of cedar and vetiver.

Finally, if you’re eating loads of sugar, you want to floss, and this eco-friendly The Humble Co Lemon Dental Floss (£3.50, greenerbeauty.com) uses the packaging as the holder and is plastic-free.

SUGAR

The packaging on Paul Mitchell Neon Sugar Cleanse Wash + Prep Shampoo (£11.25) is fab – and who knew sugar would get your hair super, super clean!?

Barry M’s Lip Scrubs (£4.99) come in various flavours – Mango, Peppermint, Apple and Watermelon. Made with sugar, they contain vitamin E and olive oil antioxidants to help prevent and reverse skin damage, and Avocado and jojoba oils to soften and hydrate.

Caudalie Crushed Cabernet Scrub (£22) is the brand’s signature spa scrub, with brown sugar as a base. It’s packed with gorgeous ingredients like lemon, lemongrass, rosemary and juniper berries, and smells heavenly and will leave your body feeling refreshed and smooth

Clarins Comfort Scrub (£26) is a nourishing oil face scrub with sugar microcrystals for dry, sensitive skin. Ther sugar comes from beetroot to combat skin dryness by very gently removing dead skin cells. It’s a gel-in-oil formula which transforms into a silky, milky veil upon contact with water. There’s mango butter in there too, to help even the driest of skin feel exfoliated, nourished and comfortable.

Diego Dalla Palma’s Sugar Lip Scrub (£9.50, marksandspencer.com) is rich in micro-pearls, butters and waxes. It gently exfoliates, as well as soothing and helping prevent cracked lips. Apply directly, gently massage with your fingertips and remove the excess with a tissue. It’s gentle enough to use every day.
