Alexandra Shulman for No7 at Boots

3 min read

Former British Vogue Editor-in-Chief Alexandra Shulman has collaborated on a gift range with Boots No7 just in time for Christmas.

I wish I could be a little bit more excited about this, but it’s all a little bit, dare I say it, meh, with a capital M. Except the velvet blue makeup bag – that I do like!

Maybe it’s just me, but even the message seems slightly dull. Yes, she was a fierce editor of British Vogue, and like she would care what we think, but I think since I read her, quite frankly, awful, novel a few years back, I’m not sold, and well…

What does Alexandra have to say about it?

No7 encapsulates my philosophy that fashion and beauty should be pleasures that are available for all to enjoy at an affordable price. It has been a wonderful opportunity to collaborate with a brand that offers product, at an accessible price, without compromising on detail and innovation,” she said.

Hmmm. Say what?! I am guessing that philosophy is not one she held when she was at Vogue…!

There has never been a time when women have had as many opportunities to be the person that they want to be, to fulfil their aspirations whatever they might be. Make-up is a companion throughout all the different stages of women’s lives; it’s a great friend who you trust, who you have fun with, who joins you in exploring the future,” she continues.

Sometimes we just want to feel comfortable appearing as the woman that we know we are, and sometimes, we want to move outside that comfort-zone and experiment – which is also the joy of fashion. These gifts have been designed with that in mind. Both of their packaging explore the idea of intricate print which has re-entered our wardrobes and our homes – and now,  with these gifts, our dressing table and bathroom cabinet.”

Anyway. Let’s have a look at this collection – or collections, as there are two. First up is the Decorative Collection, which includes that lovely velvet gift bag. That’s the Your Best Face set (£30) which contains a Shimmer Palette in Caramel, Eye Shadow Trio in High Seas, Sheer Temptation Lipstick in Shy Pink, Gel Finish Nail Colour in Neptune, an Exceptional Definition Mascara, a Powder Brush and that Cosmetic Bag.

The Cosmetic Duo gift (£10) is a cutesy little tin with High Shine Lip Crayon in Day Dreamer, and Gel Finish Nail Colour in Deep Wine. The Beauty Treats tin (£20) holds a Lash Impact Mascara in Black, and Eyeshadow in Navy Shine, Matte Liquid Lips in Grace, and Blusher in Damson Mist.

The Graphic Abstract collection has a cosmetic bag set called Embrace Your Face (£25) with Airbrush Away Radiance Boosting Primer, Eyeshadow in Innocence, Eyeshadow in Khaki Green, Stay Perfect Metallic Eye Pencil in Blackist, and Moisture Drench Lipstick in Sugar Plum, and the graphic bag.

The Cosmetic Favourites (£18) has Stay Perfect Mascara in Black, Eyeshadow in Mink, High Shine Lip Crayon in Berry, and Stay Perfect Eye Liner in Black. Finally, the Beauty Duo (£10) has a Matte Liquid Lips in Courage and a Gel Finish Nail Colour in Grey Mist.

It is all very nice, there are a lot of gorgeous products in there, and for any Shulman and Vogue fans, well, you know exactly what to get them for Christmas now, don’t you?!
