Be a Makeup Master with 5pm...or cheat!

4 min read

It’s fair to say I am addicted to BBC’s makeup reality show, GLOW UP: Britain’s Next Make-Up Star. It’s on on Wednesday nights on BBC1, presented by Stacey Dooley, with excellent judges, uber makeup artist, Val Garland, and MAC Senior Artist Dennis Skinner, and if you love makeup, you will love it.

It’s all a bit car-crash TV at times – some of the application is, well, not great – I’m being kind, it’s awful!  But it’s a perfect reality show format, and you will be hooked!

It has great challenges, all quite different week to week, and it is intersting to see how the wannabe MUAs get to grips with it.  This week’s episode saw Korean-American drag queen Kim Chi judge the contestants’ work – drag makeup, of course.

My favourite is Ellis – a softly spoken giant, he creates some amazing looks, and he just seems like a thoroughly nice guy!

So, if you fancy learning how to apply makeup better, then how about these deals from 5pm Spa and Beauty?

First up, a Makeup Masterclass at Be You Hair + Makeup in Glasgow. You can book this deal as a one-to-one lesson for £85, or you can round up some pals and book in en masse. It’s £100 for two, £150 for three, and £200 for four. You will be taught all the classic makeup tecnhiques you need to apply makeup better than you do already.

Perhaps this two-hour makeup masterclass from GMB – Girl Meets Brush – is more up your street. You will learn celebrity-inspired beauty secrets to help you re-create looks from both Instagram and magazines. Upon making your booking, you will get an essential makeup guide sent to you by email. This is a fully illustrated 20-page guide on applying makeup with amazing tips, techniques and advice.

As well as that you will receive a £40 voucher towards buying a brush set on the day and take-home charts with notes.

During the masterclass, you will be taught insider techniques from a pro-expert makeup artist. You will also learn how to get the most out of top brands such as Urban Decay, Benefit, Illamasqua and Smashbox.

You can also add on the special memento of a snazzy certificate of completion for an extra £10. Please note this does not qualify you as a makeup artist!

Masterclasses are taught in mixed groups on selected Sundays until the end of May 2019. You will have a choice of attending a workshop in Glasgow, Edinburgh or Aberdeen. Classes will be mixed and are suitable for all ages.

If you don’t fancy learning how to apply, and prefer to have your makeup done by a professional, then there are loads of offers on 5pm to choose from.

Tartan Llips in Finnieston offer a full face makeuup with false lashes for just £30 – and if you are vegan, there is a vegan option, using all vegan beauty products. It’s the same price. Both are availabnle Thursday to Saturday.
