New Scent for Spring?

4 min read

Fancy a new scent for spring? Good, because I have seven to share with you! I’ve tried these gorgeous fragrances over the last few months, and here’s my take on them.

1. Alaia Nude Eau De Parfum, from £67, available now, Debenhams

I like this one a lot. Firstly I love the 1970s-style bottle. Then I love the headiness of it. It’s a floral – not my favourite – but thanks to cedar, sandalwood and tonka bean, it has a depth to it – those notes contrast with the fresh cardamom and orange blossom. It’s a sensual scent, perfect for summer nights.

2. Tory Burch Bel Azur Eau De Parfum, from £45, available now, House of Fraser

This one will look beautiful on your dressing table. It also smells lovely, and I was surprised to enjoy it so much. Tory says the scent “captures three of my greatest inspirations – travel, the sea and the colour blue.’ Bergamot hits first, with neroli and peony at the heart. Cedarwood and vetiver come through on the dry down. It’s a beautiful fresh spring scent that will take you from day to night, and was inspired by the Cote d’Azur.

3. Jo Malone London Jasmine Sambac & Marigold Cologne Intense, from £75, available now

This year’s JML Cologne Intense has a top note of marigold, a heart of jasmine sambac, and a base of benzoin. If you like jasmine, you will love it. It’s a very sweet floral. There’s ylang ylang in there, with vanilla and amber. It’s rich and exotic, and a great summer evening scent.

4. Michael Kors Sheer Eau De Parfum, from £46, available now

One thing I really love about this is the bottle – iridescent, cut in a faceted design, it’s sleek. The fragrance itself is pretty pleasant. It’s called Sheer, and it is very light. It has top notes of bergamot, tarragon and green leaves. The heart is peony, orange blossom absolute and jasmine petals, and the base is cashemere wood musk, amber accord, and white cedarwood. It’s a gorgeous summer days scent.

5. Atkinsons California Poppy Eau De Toilette, £100, House of Fraser

This scent was one of two chosen for me by Atkinson’s fragrance expert, Andrew Kyriakou. After an hour long consultation, this EDT – an update of one of the brand’s classic 1908 originals – was seen to suit my carefree personality. It is a lovely EDT, but it is very light.  It opens with a top note of lemon and jasmine petals spiced with pink pepper.  The hart has the signature poppy accord, and at the base there’s a muskiness of cedarwood, helvetolide (a musk),  and a molecular distillation of incense. It is a bohemian scent, and perfect for the summer.

6. Narciso Rodriguez Blue Noir EDP For Him, from £47, available June, John Lewis

Although this is ‘for him’, I love, love, love it. It opens with bergamot and black pepper, has Narciso Rodriguez’s signature heart of Musc, and has a woody base of blue cedar, black ebony and amber vetiver. It’s a gorgeous scent. Although the brand says it celebrates ‘masculine sensuality’,  I would wear this every day. It’s light, fresh, and sensual.

7. Coach Floral Eau De Parfum, from £35, available now, John Lewis

This is a sparkly floral, and not my favourite at all, but if you like bright, citrusy, florals, then this is for you. Top notes are pineapple sorbet and citrus coeur, the heart is peony and jasmine sambac, and the dry down reveals crystal musks and creamy wood. The bottle is lovely, with a soft pink floral hangtag. Be warned, this scent clings, it’s very powerful.
