Aqua Allegoria Spring Scents from Guerlain

3 min read

Spring is in the air! It finally is, and what better way to celebrate the longer days, and – hopefully – better weather, than with a new fragrance. There are TEN gorgeous Guerlain Aqua Allegoria scents to choose from – the problem will be deciding which one to go for.

The Guerlain Aqua Allegoria fragrances, originally introduced in 1999, with many created by Thierry Wasser, Guerlain’s Master Perfumer, combine the freshness of a Cologne with the trail of an Eau de Parfum. All of the Guerlain collection reinvent compatible accords, blending fruit with flowers to create fresh, cheerful scents.

Although each of the scents is very different, the essential ingredient in any Aqua Allegoria fragrance is  Calabrian bergamot.

Bergamot is a favourite raw material for the Aqua Allegoria, as well as one of the key ingredients in the Guerlinade. It gives the fragrance that intense freshness that Aqua Allegoria are known for. I always go to Calabria for my supplies, as I have long-term partnerships with familes there whose passkon for bergamot dates back several generations – Thierry Wasser, Guerlain Master Perfumer

The newest Aqua Allegoria is Passiflora.

Guerlain describe this one this way: “Awakening to the freshness of the early morning, taking a turn about the garden and breathing in a light breeze laced with the energising scent of lemon, grapefruit and mandarin.Savouring a sunripened passion fruit and diving into the crystalline waters of a lagoon. Stretching out and feeling the rays caressing the skin, breathing in the sunny aroma of ylang-ylang.” Just reading that makes me feel happier and warmer! Although I am not a massive fan of sweet scents, so not sure this one is for me. The scent contains passionfruit, and ylang ylang, along with an aquatic note.

Rosa Rossa  blends rose with the sparkle of a lychee–blackcurrant duo. Sweet sandalwood is the other note in this scent. Teazzurra, featuring the spirit of green tea with a note of jasmine, makes this one relaxing, yet invigorating at the same time. Combined with bergamot, violet, grapefruit and Japanese citrus yuzu, this is a bold scent.

Bergamote Calabria is an original and contains a spicy flash of cardamom and the freshness of pink peppercorn and ginger. It gives a sun-kissed aroma heightened by bergamot juice extract and lemon petit grain, enlivened with a breath of white musk. Nerolia Bianca, has the spirit of bitter orange with a note of white musk. It’s the whole orange in this one – the fruit with essence of bitter orange, the flower with orange blossom absolute and essence of neroli and, finally, the leaves which give the petitgrain essence. With its lively inflections, it offers a wonderful aromatic freshness, blended with peppermint and sheathed in white musk

Pera Granita blends pear with citrus fruits. It blends grapefruit and lemon, with tangy pear, and a note of floral fruity osmanthus. Limon Verde is lime with a tropical note. The green note of a lush tropical garden, the  delicious freshness of a waterfall at the heart of the jungle. The exuberance of a Brazilian celebration… Wow. Let me bathe in this one! It contains lime, cane sugar, a caipirinha accord, and tonka bean to warm it up.
