Summer Beauty Essentials - Part 2

5 min read

It’s summer (the least said about the last weekend the better!) – and that means you need to add some summer beauty essentials to your beauty haul – home or abroad.

I need my 20kg luggage allowance for beauty products alone – I am a holiday product junkie. So here are loads of my favourites for you to choose from – probably don’t need ALL of these, but, well…

Your hair and body will never look better in the summer – trust me!

1.Davines SU hair & Body wash (£14, cultbeauty.co.uk) – it’s always a good idea to get a special ‘summer’ shampoo if you are in the pool or the sea. This one moisturises and protects, and you can use it on the body as well.

2.Clarins After Sun Gel (£21) – pop this in the fridge in your holiday abode, and any sunburn or heat you are feeling after your day on the beach or at the pool, will dissipate. I love Clarins sun care, and this lovely gel formula feels great and keeps your skin hydrated.

3. Lacura Refreshing Sun Spray SPF30 (£2.79, Aldi) is perfect  – cheap, high protection, and in a refreshing mist. You don’t need to spend a lot of money on sunscreen, just wear it!

4. Emma Hardie Plump + Glow Hydrating Facial Mist (£36). Okay, this isn’t an essential, but I do love a facial mist and this one has anti-ageing properties as well as being hydrating and refreshing. It contains hydrating Aloe Vera, Velvet Flower to help soften, Wild Watermint to help tone, moisturise and protect, and Hyaluronic Acid to help plump up dehydrated skin and fine lines.

5.Alpha-H Protection Plus Hair & Body Oil SPF50, (£29.50, QVC). I love Alpha-H, but I would say that although this is labelled ‘hair and body’, it’s only a 100ml bottle, so I would keep it for hair and face. It’s a lovely oil – not greasy, and has all sorts of goodies in it, like argan oil and liquid ginger extract. And it is super-high sun protection from UVA and UVB rays.

6.Evolve Satin Leg Gloss (£20). Leg gloss is not an essential, but this is a lovely product, so treat yoself! It’s a dry body oil which will give your legs a gorgeous, glossy, high shine finish. It contains Organic Camellia Seed Oil, Bisabolol and Organic Castor oil, for the shine, as well as  Mineral mica and titanium to add sparkle and moisturisation. It’s 100% natural and 99.6% organic.

7.Living Sea Body Polish (£19) This lovely English company has a Living Sea Complex at the heart of each product, a unique, scientific infusion of wild seaweed extracts and sea minerals. The ingredients are harvested by hand, drawn direct from the source –  the ultra-pure waters off the Cornish Coast. In this lovely body polish they are combined with natural pumice as well as sage and spearmint pure essential oils. Perfect after a day at the beach.

8.Bobbi Brown Face Mist (£22) Another fab face mist, this one hydrates, soothes, refreshes and gives skin a glow – you can use it over makeup, or alone. Formulated with Glycerine and Panthenol, it instantly plumps and refreshes skin and improves moisture and condition over time, thanks also to Caffeine and Chamomile, Cucumber and Green Tea Extracts.

9.Aveda After-Sun Hair Masque (£24) This is one of my all-time holiday favourites. Use after a day in the sun, and your hair will thank you. Contains Morikue protein for restoration, tamanu oil, shea buter, coconut and palm oils, a blend of green tea extract, certified organic sunflower seed oil, and vitamin E. It smells delicious thanks to essences of neroli, ylang ylang and cistus.

10. Aveda Protective Hair Veil (£22.50). Another essential, it smells so good! And, it does wonders for the hair in the sun. Very lightweight, water-resistant with UVA and UVB filters derived from wintergreen and cinnamon bark oils to protect your hair. Also contains all the same ingredients as the masque. Spray it on whenever you come out of the pool or sea, and regularly throughout the day.

11. Origins Shower Off Exfoliating Body Wash (£22). Contains Hawaiian Mineral Water, and a lovely essential oil blend of Wild Mint, Spearmint, and Orange. Perfect for after beach or pool day, as it leaves you feeling cool, as well as clean.

Egyptian Magic (£29, Boots) is, well, magic! I do love this balm, it works wonders on dry skin. Cameron Diaz is a huge fan, and there are myriad reasons to use it as a summer musthave. It’s great for sunburn, it’ll combat dehydration on flights, mix a little with foundation for a summery glow, use on the ends of your hair overnight, and on cracked feet – trust me it works! It contains beeswax, and other natural ingredients, and celebs love it! Amongst fans are Laura Conrad, Eva Mendes, Kate Hudson, January Jones and more.

Umberto Giannini’s Beach collection is powered by coconut oil, and smells fabulous. I also just love the pink packaging, and the illustrations. Super cute. There are five products – Beach Wash Coconut Shine Shampoo, and Beach Care Coconut Shine Conditioner (£6 each), Catch A Wave Coconut Oil Beachy Texture Volumising Spray (£7), Pool Proof Leave-In Hair Protection Cream (£8), and Boho Beach Jelly Coconut Oil Scrunching Jelly (£7). Everything you need for perfect holiday hair! All available at Boots.

Phew! So, don’t take all of these – but some might be useful in that holiday beauty bag!
