Kiehl's Pure Vitality Skin Renewing Cream

This anti-ageing cream from Kiehl’s launched late last year, but I’ve only just become aware of it. I was instantly drawn to the yellow glass pot it comes in – anything yellow is a winner for me.

But I was also impressed with the research and science behind this cream – and the fact that the ingredients were naturally-derived.

Kiehl’s Pure Vitality Skin Renewing Cream is a 99.6% naturally-derived formula that is the first of its kind to leverage the combined efficacy of two world-renowned wellness ingredients – sustainably-sourced New Zealand Manuka Honey and Korean Red Ginseng Root.

This means that the cream is rich and nourishing in texture, helps skin resist hydration loss, and also aids in recovery from existing skin damage.

In a clinical test, radiance/glow improved by 41.8% while texture/smoothness improved by 39.7%. In an unprecedented study, the formula was clinically demonstrated to give older skin the measured
characteristics of younger skin.

In the study, women ages 20 to 30 (untreated younger panel) were assessed for skin radiance, smoothness and softness, while women ages 35 to 49 (older panel) were tested for the same attributes after use of Kiehl’s new formula.  The results were amazing. After eight weeks of usingPure Vitality Skin Renewing Cream,
the older panel demonstrated clinical improvements that were either on par with,  or surpassed,  the younger
panel.

Not bad results! I’ve not been using this for eight weeks, so I’m not going to say my skin is that of a 30 year-old all of a sudden, but I will say that it is interesting to use – it’s quite a thick, almost gloopy/gluey consistency, and the smell is a wee bit odd, but it does feel good on the skin.

New Zealand Manuka Honey is a dark, creamy mono-floral honey is valued in medicine for its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties and ability to treat skin wounds, even post surgery.

These are true powerhouse ingredients with strong scientific profiles. New Zealand Manuka Honey is no ordinary honey. For over 30 years it has been known for its strong medicinal profile, specifically anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties. Physicians today still value its ability to treat skin wounds. Korean Red Ginseng Root has been used for 1000’s of years in traditional Asian medicine and is the most powerful ginseng in the world in terms of biological actives  – Dr. Geoff Genesky, Kiehl’s Head Chemist.

The Korean Red Ginseng Root helps with skin cell regeneration, and has been linked to stimulation and protection of the cellular energy pathways that begin to malfunction or slow down over time.

I would say this cream is great for dry skin types, and perhaps better as a winter moisturiser, despite its sunny yellow pot.
