Seven Super Spring Scents!

4 min read

Spring is a good time for a new fragrance, so I’ve rounded up seven super spring scents for you!

First up, Mon Guerlain EDP (from £45, boots.com). I will overlook the fact that Angelina Jolie is the face of this new Guerlain fragrance (Team Aniston forever, yeah?!), and introduce you to this delightful new scent by Thierry Wasser, the fifth Guerlain perfumer. I am in love with the Guerlain fragrance history. I could go on all day. They’ve been making perfume since Charles Dickens was around for heaven’s sake, and Mitsouko is one of my absolute favourites. Mon Guerlain is in a bottle that was designed in 1908 – it’s called a quadrilobe by the way – but the scent within is much more modern.

It’s a woody oriental scent, with top notes of lavender and bergamot, a heart of jasmine sambac – a familiar note of late in many scents – and iris, with a dry down of tahitensis vanilla, coumarin and sandalwood.

DKNY’s latest apple fragrance is Be Tempted Eau So Blush (from £37, superdrug.com), a very bright and fresh citrus-heavy scent with top notes of pink grapefruit, blood orange and blackcurrant. The heart is floral with peony and jasmine (again) blending with cedarwood, and the dry down is creamy woods, apricot and musk. It’s a bit too fruity floral for me, but it’s actually not the worst of some of these apple incarnations!

Michael Kors Sexy Blossom (from £46, thefragranceshop.com) doesn’t have that tuberose note in it I seem to associate with his scents. It’s actually quite refreshing this one, a floral woody musk fragrance, with top notes of lychee, rose petals and dewy leaves, a heart of pink peony, pink orchid accord, muguet and freesia, and a base of ambrox, musk and sandalwood. I quite like it, and I love the pink bottle.

Tom Ford make the best perfumes I have ever had the pleasure to wear. New for this spring, from March 31, are three All Over Body Sprays (£44, harveynichols.com) – so a lighter way to wear some of the delightful private blends. There’s the Mandarino Di Amalfi  –  a gorgeous aroma of citrus and herbs that perfume the cliffs and bays of the southern Amalfi coast.

The Costa Azzura version evokes the fragrant and sun-baked landscape of t coastal and island mediterranean woods – so it has a fresh, pine scent, mixing with wild herbs and salty water. Finally, Fleur de Portofino, inspired by the beautiful white acacia tree flowers. All three make me want to go lie on a sunlounger in the Mediterranean heat immediately.

Aerin from Estee Lauder has the new Rose Eau De Cologne collection available this month, in sprays and rollerballs. (£120, and £21, esteelauder.co.uk/world-aerin) The three scents are Garden Rose, Linen Rose and Bamboo Rose. I adore any rose fragrance, even the sicky sweet 1970s ones that don’t even smell like real rose. These are delightful and light, each very different. Bamboo Rose has notes of jasmine, pink pepper, amber and musk; Linen Rose has notes of orange flower, lemon leaves and coconut water, and Garden Rose is fresh and blends germanium with many rose notes.

Neom’s Energy Burst 100% Natural EDP (£49, neomorganics.com) is wonderful. It smells so good, it is instantly uplifting, whatever your mood. A crisp, invigorating scent, blending the freshest grapefruit with sparkling lemon and a hint of rose, it’s very moreish. It’s the brand’s first perfume, and it is a winner.

We really believe that wellbeing starts with the little moments, so we have created this 100% natural, every day fragrance that you can use wherever and whenever you need an extra burst of energy. It could be for that 6am start, powering you through the school run, getting you refreshed and refocused before your board meeting, or a powerful lift before your gym class – Neom Creative Director Nicola Elliott

Finally, Tory Burch’s new scent, Love Relentlessly (from £50, from Debenhams, from April), which has a cute story behind it, centred on her mum and dad’s enduring love. Apparently, after they met, Tory’s father wrote notes to her mother, which he ran in the ‘wanted’ section of the local newspaper. One read: “If I told you that I love you, would you hold it against me?” Her father always signed off, ‘Love, Relentless.’ Too cute?!

The perfume itself comes in a lovely bottle, and is a very fresh floral, thanks to notes of Pink Grapefruit, Pink Pepper, Sicilian Lemon, Sparkling Pear, Raspberry, Lychee, Rose Essential, Orris, Jasmine Sambac, Patchouli Heart, Australian Sandalwood, Vetiver, Cedarwood Heart, Tonka Bean Absolute, Ambertonic – phew! There is a lot in this bottle!
