Let YSL Shock you!

YSL have launched another version of their Black Opium fragrance – Black Opium Floral Shock. This one also comes with a makeup collection at the same time.

Its not a massive collection. There’s a brow marker (which scares me), and a double ended shadow stick thing, and the new ‘The Shock’ False Lash Mascara.

Let’s begin with the fragrance, Black Opium Floral Shock (£71 for 50ml). This new version of Black Opium has the familiar coffee note of the original scent, but it has a new, sweet, freshness. That’s thanks to notes of freesia, bergamot, sugary pear, golden gardenia and orange blossom. There’s an ice-cold espresso coffee accord, and a note of white musk.

I have to admit it’s not really the fragrance for me. I don’t love the Black Opium family. Floral scents aren’t my favourite.

The new Shock Mascara (£23), however,  is a beauty. I love it. Yes, it did smudge a wee bit more than my current fave (Clinique’s Full-to-Flutter Mascara), but it makes your eyes pop. One sweep of the brush through my lashes was enough. It’s all down to the brush, apparently, this brilliant volume.

It is wider than usual and has a curved symmetrical shape and four inner reservoir cuts – this is a new shape. When you dip the wand, the reservoirs fill to full with mascara and that’s how it works.
