Illuminate your skin for the New Year!

4 min read

If you’re heading out on Hogmanay, chances are you’re going to feel a little bit under the weather on the first day of the New Year – and that means your skin will be a little lacklustre and tired too.

The hangover, I can’t help with (though I do think a fry up and some full fat Coca Cola helps!). The tired skin? I can help with that. Illuminate, illuminate, illuminate.

Make sure you have at least one of these beauties in your arsenal come January 1, and you will at least look radiant, even if you don’t feel it.

I love a highlighter. I love to mix it in with my foundation to add an all-over glow, or dot it onto cheekbones and decollete for a subtle sheen. And at this time of year, you can get away with a little more shine, shimmer and sheen.

The Estee Edit has some fab products. You can get it online, and I seriously suggest checking this Estee Lauder sub-brand out – I love it.

The Radiance Activator Treat + Prep + Glow (£38) is a 3-in-1 serum, for long-term brightening and hydration, as well as instant visible radiance. It is packed with skincare benefits – vitamin E, Pink peony, sea lavender flower and sodium hyaluronate.  It also contains mirror prism illuminators to add brightness and luminosity. It has a yellow gold glow to it, and smells delicious.

The Flash Photo Powder (£24) is a blue-hued powder which brightens skin, and means you are always selfie-ready  – even on New Year’s Day!

Beam Team Hydrate + Glow (£34) is another hybrid product which moisturises and highlights for a brilliant bronze glow. This is a cute little product – the tube holds a bronze tinted moisturiser, with hyaluronic acid, and then hidden under the cap, there’s a touch-on concentrate to give you a shot of high-impact golden bronze shimmer. You can instantly highlight cheekbones, browbones and all your favourite glow zones easily.  It’s softly scented with fruit and coconut oils too. Lovely!

Boots No7 Skin Illuminator in Bronze (£12.50) is a 3-in-1 product – use as a primer, mix it with foundation for luminosity, or apply as a highlighter to your cheek and brow bones. I think I would prefer the Nude shade to this Bronze, but it isn’t full-on, and adds a subtle shimmer.

Boots Natural Collection Highlighter Stick (£1.99) is a great buy if you’re not that sure. Buy all three! This cute little stick comes in three shades – Rose Glow for soft dewy radiance, Coral Glow for a warm shimmering complexion and Copper Glow for an effortless golden bronze glimmer.Super simple to use, apply above the eyebrow and on your cheekbones to highlight and sculpt for a flawless natural look. It has a fair amount of shimmer in it.

Boots SEVENTEEN Skin Wow! 3 Way Highlighter (£5.99) gives great highlight! Be careful, you don’t need a lot. Use to prime, add to your foundation, or apply on cheek bones to lift, lighten and waken your skin!

Clinique Up-Lighting Liquid Illuminator (£22) comes in three shades – bronze, natural and blush. I tried bronze, and it is lovely. Even for a peely-wally like me, it adds just a subtle amount of shimmer. Again, mix it with moisturiser, foundation, use it alone, or dot it on the areas you want to enhance.

3. Illamasqua Beyond Highlighter in OMG (£32) is a baked highlighting powder which will subtly add a warm hue to your complexion. 4. New CID Cosmetics i-illuminise (£22) comes in two shades – Pearl for lighter skin tones to add radiance or Opal for warmer skin tones, and for a more golden glow. 5. M&S Autograph Illuminating Primer (£12.50) contains extracts of Kakadu Plum, a native Australian superfruit and the world’s richest source of vitamin C –  50x more potent than oranges.  Wow! it makes you glow!

Have a Happy Hogmanany!
