Darphin's new Lumiere Essentielle skincare

2 min read

Darphin are a beauty brand that have that classic ‘old-school’ feel, but they were only founded in 1958, so they’re mere babies in the beauty business really, founded after the likes of Estee Lauder, Chanel, Givenchy, Clarins and Guerlain.

But they have that ‘old-school’ feel, with rich sumptuous creams, and their signature oils. They are, however, a much more interesting and innovative brand than you might realise. There is a detailed history of them, and founder Pierre Darphin, on their website, that is well worth reading, beauty fans.

And their latest launch – and they don’t generally have that many – is an interesting one. The Lumiere Essentielle Illuminating Oil Serum and Illuminating Oil Gel-Cream are two products designed to being light (lumiere) back to your skin. The products hydrate and illuminate. Using a powerful combination of the finest botanicals, this range promises to lift dullness, boost moisture and plump skin for a glowing complexion.

At the heart of each product there is a b;end of seven illuminating essential oils. Oils are a standard of Darphin products, and this blend is lovely. They are Tangerine, Orange, Neroli, Rose, Ylang Ylang, Cedarwood and Ginger.

So, the Illuminating Oil Serum first. Each bottle contains 7000 – count ’em (actually, don’t!) – microencapsulated pearls of that blend of oils, and they are blended by hand, drop by drop, and weightlessly suspended. The Crystalline serum contains an invigorating marine extract from the sea off France, hydrating hyaluronic acid, and skin-renewing Acetyl-Glucosamine.

It is very light to the touch, and with every pump the twp phases of the product are dispensed and applied to your skin. It’s a product for all skin types, all ages, and is a gret way into this lovely brand.

The Hydrating Oil Gel-Cream again has that blend of seven essential oils, and this Cashmere soft gel-cream has skin-strengthening plant sugars, as well as the hyaluronic acid and the acetyl-glucosamine. When massaged into the skin, the cream transforms into an oil. However, that’s not as obvious as you may think, which is great. It’s not ‘oily’ as such, it just feels nice on your skin.

Both of these products are indulgent, and for general skincare, with illumination and brightness at the heart of their results. So, if you feel that your skin needs a little treat, then definitely give them a go.
