Illamasqua Extinct Collection

3 min read

The AW16 collection from Illamasqua launched at the start of the month, and it’s one of those collections that isn’t overly wearable at first glance, but dip into it deeper, and there’s something for everyone!

The concept behind this collection, according to Illamasqua Chairman, Joe Corre, is the “parallels between the extinction of ideas, with those of the species.”

We are seeking to discover, explore, undersand and respect the Extinct. The living parts of the natural world that are no more, and the crisis of survival many now face. In the year where Punk is celebrated by the establishment, its meaning extinguished by conformity. We can see the parallels between the extinction of ideas, with those of the species. – Joe Corre

There are some insane, and wonderful, campaign images to go with this collection.

Let’s look at the products. There’s the Demise Palette (£34), a quad of easily wearable powder eye shadows that create a textural and autumnal smoky eye. For a limited time only, the ‘extinct’ Illamasqua eyeshadow in Gimp has been brought back following a call from the brand’s fans, and included in this palette. Along with Gimp, you’ll find Wilt (a red gold), Lost (a white gold), and Interitus (burgundy).

There’s one Pure Pigment (£17.50), in Axolotl, a holographic blue, to use howeever you choose, and a deep green Gel Liner (£20), called Quixotic. Two single Powder Eyeshadows (£16.50) complete the eye look, in Cascade, a blue/white frost, and Jubilance, a pale copper.

The Matte Lip Liquid (£18.50) is in Evoskeleton (Dusky Plum), this autumn/winter’s musthave lip shade, and the Nail Varnish (£14.50) comes in two daring shades – a deep merlot injected with glitter particles, called Remains, and a two-toned green that mimics iridescent beetle wings, called Quagga.
