Aveda's Daily Light Guard

Aveda’s latest big launch is a sunscreen for the face, to help prevent ageing from the sun. Sadly, when the sun shines, mixed with our joy is fear of it burning, or ageing us.

The sun is wonderful – and we do need some Vitamin D, but we have to be careful of its rays, and not getting too much of it. This isn’t a holiday sunscreen as such, but, if you’re off on a city break, or we get a heatwave here (here’s hoping!), then it’s perfect. AND – Aveda are keen to point out that the sun doesn’t have to be shining to damage our skin.

Containing 100% mineral-derived sunscreens to help protect against UVA and UVB rays, and plant-derived extracts to help protect and strengthen skin against  free radicals and environmental damage, Aveda’s Daily Light Guard Defense Fluid (that American spelling of defence really annoys me though!) will help defend the skin from all the external aggressors.

“The sun is the premature ageing factor we are exposed to most on a daily basis,” says Helga Hefner, Aveda’s Professional Spa Education Manager. “Most people think  they may only need to wear a sunscreen on a sunny day, but most UV and environmental damage happens while simply going about your daily routine.”

The mineral-derived ingredients in the product include Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide, working to geyher to protect with an SPF30. There’s Certified Organic Kukui Seed Oil in there to help strengthen the skin’s barrier, goving powerful protection from pollutants.

The plant-based anti-oxidant blend of  Ayurvedic Rice Bran, Rosemary Extract, Certified Organic Ginger and Vitamin E will help neutralize harmful free radicals.

So, you apply this daily, after your normal skincare routine, and also every two hours if you are exposed to the sun. But if you are at the beach, I’d suggest using something different if you are going to be in and out of the water, or getting very hot. This is definitely more of a mini-break potion!

It’s a light fluid, it smells lovely, and if you love layering your skincare then this one is for you. And although we shouldn’t hide from the sun completely (especially when we see so little of it), it does age us, so be careful with it!
