Lily James's Golden Globes hair

2 min read

WOW. Lily James looked anything but Cinderella-like at the Golden Globes on Sunday night in Hollywood. She also looked so far removed from her Downton Abbey Character, Rose, she was hardly recognisable.

She looked beautiful – ethereal, feminine, with a proper edge about her. Her pared down neutral makeup was perfection, her Marchesa gown was stunning, and her hair…well, her hair was the absolute icing on the cake.

And, you lucky people, here’s how she achieved it (well, her stylist did!) and with what products.

Ashley Streicher for SHOW Beauty created the look, and the inspiration was “a 1970s French Riviera vibe – elegant and glamorous, with an edge”.

So, how did Ashley Streicher achieve these gorgeous, brushed out waves?

We asked, and we were told!

She started by spraying SHOW Beauty Sheer Thermal Protect (£35) to Lily’s clean, dry, hair, to prepare for heat styling. Then she added SHOW Beauty Divine Thickening Mist (£35) at the roots to add some volume.

Next, Lily was given a centre parting, and her hair was sprayed with a touch of SHOW Beauty Premiere Finishing Spray (£30) to each section to keep the hair in place. Ashley used a 1.5inch curling iron to curl the hair, securing each row with a setting pin.

The hair at the nape of the neck was set with curls in one direction, and the net layer was curled in the opposite direction, and so on, to build body and create that tousled wave.

(This was exactly the technique I was shown by a stylist, using heated rollers,    to create the vintage waves I wanted for my wedding day. If my bridesmaid hadn’t unplugged my heated rollers along with her iPhone, it might have worked a little better, but anyway…!)

For the top layer of the hair around the centre parting, Ashley used a flatiron instead of a curling iron to form finger waves, that appeared loose and undone. Lastly, she let the whole look set, unpinned it and brushed it out, finishing the look off with SHOW Beauty Premiere Dry Shampoo (£30) and another touch of SHOW Beauty Premiere Finishing Spray to give it long-lasting hold and gorgeous volume.
