Winter warming candles

3 min read

Scented candles are big business – I don’t know many people who don’t have at least one in their house, and they’re particularly lovely to light in the autumn and winter.

So, I’ve rounded up a few to share with you, to scent your home this Christmas, or as a festive gift.

Winter Warning Candles Origins

1. Space NK Shimmering Spice Candle, £25, spacenk.com

This smells delicious. All festive, spicy and yet fruity at the same time. That’s thanks to the blend of spicy cinnamon and zesty citrus, mellowing into a rich cedar with a hint of vanilla. It also looks really pretty if your festive theme is silver. Oh, and it comes in a smaller, 75g size as well, for £15.

2. Origins Limited Edition Feel Good Candle, £35, origins.co.uk

Origins celebrates 20 years in the UK with this limited edition Feel Good Candle made from recycled wine bottles. It’s 100% soy wax, and has a lovely pine, spruce and orange scent which is very subtle. Once the candle is finished, Origins suggest popping it in the freezer for up to six hours, popping out the remaining soy, and then using the glass as a holder for whatever you fancy -or make your own candle in it! For every candle sold, Origins will plant a tree through the non-profit program Golbal ReLeaf. This candle is available from December 7.

Winter Candles Space NK, Origins and Jo Malone

3. Jo Malone Wild Bluebell Scented Candle, £42, jomalone.co.uk

Okay, this is not the most festive of Jo Malone candles – I’d suggest Pomegranate Noir, or Pine & Eucalyptus for that, but I adore this Wild Bluebell scent. And when you’re relaxing in a bath, and the wind and rain are howling and pouring outside, then why not send yourself back to spring with this gorgeous scent? See, I’m not that daft!

4. Shearer Candles Frankincense & Myrrh Small Tin Candle, £4, shearer-candles.com

Made in Scotland, Shearer Candles have been around since 1897! The range is extensive, and they have lots of Christmas themed candles to choose from. This cute little tin candle is perfect stocking filler, and is an exotic blend of woods, spices, musk and vanilla. And you get 20 hours burn time out of this little thing!

Shearer Candle Christmas Collection

5. Shearer Candles Cinammon Spice Tall Candle, £25

This is a beast of a candle, with 100 hours burning time. The scent is quite overpowering, a mix of cinammon, clove and spiced apple. It’s very festive, but a bit much for me.

6. Shearer Candles Hollyberry & Clove Jar Candle, £8

I really like this one. It’s a perfect festive red, and the scent is very festive, but not too strong. It’s a mix of clove and cinammon, and will put even the biggest Scrooge in the festive mood, guaranteed! Well, we hope so anyway!

Sanctuary Spa and Fake Bake candles

7. Sanctuary Spa Black Rose & Cassis Candle, £10, sanctuary.com

If you like rose, you will adore this. I do, and I can’t get enough of it. It smells so good. Indulgent black rose mingles with juicy sweet cassis, and amber, sweet labdanum and vetivert add warmth to the candle fragrance. It’s not overly festive, but it is just lovely.

8. Fake Bake At Home, Cashmere Me Warm Hug Comforting Candle, £20, fakebakebeauty.co.uk

With top notes of vanilla and coconut, this is a little bit cloying; too sweet for me, but I know some will love it. The floral heart of white lily and Moroccan jasmine is a wee bit lost. There’s black cardamom in there too, and a base of warm amber, velvet woods and musk. This two wick candle is not for those who want a subtle scent – it’s pretty full on.
