Cult Beauty - MAC Strobe Cream

2 min read

Whilst it’s always great to celebrate new launches in the beauty world- and there are more than enough of them to do that on this blog every week – there are some cult beauty products we just love to celebrate. Classics that have stood the test of time, maintained their best-selling status, and products that many of us couldn’t live without. So, let’s celebrate one every week!

MAC STROBE CREAM

MAC Strobe Cream Cult Beauty

Launched in 2000, MAC Strobe Cream was something new, capturing the zeitgeist of the time, picking up on club trends where strobe lighting swept the dance floor, picking up the wet skin of the energetic dancers, who were part of the electronica, techno, drum and bass scene.

Strobe Cream was created to mimic this dewy, alive, look of the skin, by highlighting. The opposite of contouring, highlighting emphasises areas of the face where light bounces off, making them stand out.

Highlighting is nothing new, and wasn’t in 2000, but MAC took it to the extremes with this cream, which is actually a moisturiser, and listed as such on the brand’s website. This in itself stood it apart from all the other highlighters on the market. It was a product you could use over your whole face, and rather than simply highlight areas, your whole complexion could dance, lit up, looking youthful and alive.

It’s a product that can be used in so many ways, it’s a makeup artist favourite, and many of us have grown up with it, and our use of it has adapted and changed throughout the years. Perhaps we once used it as an all-over moisturiser, now we use it just where we want to highlight, or we use it as a post-moisturising primer. It gives a soft, iridescent glow to the skin – the effect is immediate. A flat, dull complexion is immediately illuminated. It’s youth in a bottle – MAC might just have captured it!

Thanks to a blend of vitamins and finely-milled, light-reflective particles, it is also packed full of antioxidants, so has skincare benefits as well.  MAC say it ‘de-snoozes, de-stresses, moisturises, and freshens’ and we can’t argue with that.

It is definitely worthy of its cult beauty status, agreed?
