Weekend Break Beauty

4 min read

It’s the September weekend in Edinburgh this weekend, and Glasgow next weekend, so, are you heading off anywhere? Maybe a wee city break? A sunshine weekend? Or just hanging out in Scotland. Wherever you are off to, you will need to take your beauty essentials.

But what beauty essentials?! It’s always a problem, packing for a holiday, particularly when you are a beauty junkie, and have TONS of products at home.

Anyway, here’s what I would take, and the reasons why!

I currently cannot get enough of Jo Malone’s Blackberry & Bay Shower Oil (£32, jomalone.co.uk), so I will definitely be decanting some of that into a little travel bottle to take away. Heading abroad, I always need SPF of the highest, and Soltan’s Suncare Spray SPF50+ (£6 200ml, £3.50, 75ml, Boots) is brilliant if you are having a break in the hot sunshine.

I have also just discovered Wonder Body by The Sanctuary Spa (£8, launches October), which is a tinted moisturiser that contains blurring, skin-perfecting particle, and sheer pigments to deliver smooth skin with a radiant glow. So, you apply it to limbs and decolletage, and has seven skincare benefits. It hydrates, illuminates, transforms, refines, evens, corrects and perfects. It contains grape seed and abyssinian oils, both rich in vitamin E, for hydration. It adds a lovely luminosity to the skin. But remember, it’s not for the face.

Then there’s YSL’s brilliant Jaune Babouche shade of Nail Polish (£19, yslbeauty.co.uk), which launched earlier this year. Yellow is a fab shade for nails in the sun.

Finally, and also from YSL, I am really obsessing with their Kiss & Blush in Corail Incandescent (£28.50). This two-in-one lip and cheek produt is a perfect coral to brighten up a late summer break.

Mini-Break Essentials YSL and Tom FordComing soon, in October, and maybe one for a Christmas gift, is a lovely little travel-size set from Aurelia Skincare. The Refine & Glow Miracle Collection (£42, aureliaskincare.com, spacenk.com), is a little set of treats in a gorgeus bag, designed in collaboration with young British textile designer Jo Faulkner. The bag contains a 30ml Miracle Cleanser, 15ml Refine & Polish Miracle Balm, 2ml Cell Repair Night Oil, and a set of seven Monday to Sunday Bamboo Muslin cloths. These cloths are the king of cleansing cloths!

Mini Aurelia Skincare KitAnother cute little mini kit, perfect for a trip, is Ole Henriksen’s 3 Little Wonders Mini Collection Professional Strength Anti-Aging AM/PM system (£18, lookfantastic.com, John Lewis). This little kit promises to transform your skin in just seven days, so, you know there’s enough in there for a week’s break.

It contains 9.76ml of the brand’s best-selling truth serum collagen booster, and little 7g pots of  sheer transformation crème, and invigorating night treatment. Each product works to defend against signs of ageing by firming, lifting, re-texturising, tightening and evening out skin tone; with light, oil free formulations made of the finest botanical ingredients. These products work and work well, and this is really all you need in that suitcase!

If you want an alternative to cleansing cloths, or cotton pads, then how about the Facial Konjac Sponge from The Beauty Kitchen (£6.99, beautykitchen.co.uk). You don’t even need cleanser with this miracle sponge, which cleanses and exfoliates. Try it!

Travel Essentials from Ole Henriksen and Beauty KitchenNow, if your skin is problematic – oily, sensitive, or prone to blemishes, then REN have these cute little kits, just for you, and perfect for travelling. My friend with rosacea took this one, the REN STOP BEING SO SENSITIVE kit (£15, renskincare.com) on her holiday and it saved her skin!  It’s an introduction to REN’s  best-selling Sensitive Skin range and includes 50ml EVERCALM Gentle Cleansing Milk, 15ml EVERCALM Global Protection Day Cream, and 10ml EVERCALM Anti-Redness Serum.

Everyone has their favourite brands, and one of mine is Clarins. I adore them, in particular the HydraQuench range, so I will always pop their HydraQuench Intensive Serum Bi-Phase into my holiday toilet bag. But I would prefer to just carry the little mini size. These aren’t really around to buy, but you do get free mini samples when you buy products, and there are loads of gift sets over the year, and special offers, where you can collect and store the mini sizes.

Bon Voyage with Clarins!

And in case you are wondering, the cute ‘Bon Voyage’ case is from The Lucky Dip Club. Bon Voyage!
