YSL Saharienne Summer 2015

GORGEOUS.One word to describe this lovely new collection from YSL for summer. I could give you a few more as well – bold, innovative, wearable, trend-setting. You get the idea: I love it!

The yellow nail polish is my absolute favourite, and I have had so many compliments when wearing it. But I digress. Let’s start at the beginning and get to nails later…

So, this YSL summer collection, Saharienne, is a modern take on Marrakech, but paying homage to its colourful statement and hedonistic past. Think rich and excessive, think of heat, but freshness at the same time, both contemporary and timeless.

YSL Saharienne Summer 2015

At the heart of this collection is the Les Sahariennes Bronzing Palette (£31) – the first patented sun-kissed balm-powder blur. This product is in the YSL beauty range already – these are the bronzer versions, of which there are seven shades.

So easy to use, with a double-ended applicator. Use the brush side for sun-kiss contouring on hallows of the face to create structure and definition, or use the sponge-side, with soft sweeping motions from the centre of the face outwards, for an all-over, natural sun-kissed makeup look. It’s buildable for glow and blur effect. It’s not shimmery, it’s very natural and it leaves skin looking naturally sun-kissed.

Let’s look at the gorgeous eye palette next. Couture Palette No12 Mauresques (£42.50) is full of hot earth shades, deep brown hues, highlighted with a warm peach and a sunny yellow. It represents the sensuality of sunrise on a desert horizon. You can create a wash or a shimmer, or use the darker shades to add structure. It’s a beautiful, easy to use palette. Use the Deep Green shade of the Shocking False Lash Effect Eyeliner (£25.50) to complement the shades in this palette.

Lips are given a hint of sensual shimmer with two new glossy summer options of Gloss Volupte (£22). One is bright, one is deep, both have an iridescent quality. Orange Sagatte is exciting and enticing, a golden orange inspired by the lustrous Morrocan musical instruments to dance on the lips. Bordeaux Sarouel is a deep burgundy rred, the perfect evocative summer shade.

My faovurite are the Baby Doll Kiss & Blush (£28.50) new shades – Corail Incandescent, a poppy red coral, just wonderful, and Ocre Luxurieux, a deep, warm brown.

Coral is the perfect colout to bring light to a bronzed skin, and enhance its colour,” says Lloyd Simmonds, Creative Director Makeup YSL Beaute. Ochre, meanwhile, will spice up your tan or add depth for a sculpting effect over Les Sahariennes blurs.”

Finally those nails! Two amazing shades in this collection of La Lacque Couture (£19), but the shade of the season is Jaune Babouche. It’s a gorgeous burnished yellow, like the soft yellow leather slippers worn by Marrakech locals. But Brun Henne is also lovely, a wearable burnt reddish brown, like the colour of the intricate henna designs sported by Moroccan women.

This is an excellent summery, rich, indulgent collection. Perfect for the 1970s trend we’re having in fashion this summer as well.
