Estee Lauder Little Black Primer...with Kendall Jenner

2 min read

Never mind the Kardashians, we’re keeping up with the Jenners this week! Wednesday’s National Television Awards anyone? Kim Jenner looked great, but can we forgive her for Georgie Shore? Really, it’s not that hard! (Mind you, can we forgive anyone for Geordie Shore?!)

Anyway, over to Kendall Jenner, and her first big campaign for Estee Lauder – launching their new, innovative, Little Black Primer. It’s such a simple concept really – it’s just one of those white lash primers we all know (and er, love or hate?!) but it’s black. So, you can wear it on your own, and you don’t look mad if you forget to put the actual mascara on on top!

So, let’s talk about this Little Black Primer. It’s a 3-in-1 product, a subtle lash tint, a water-resistant topcoat, and a primer. Estee Lauder are treating your eyelashes like hair – they should be prepped and styled to look their best, and need the right base to stay looking curled and voluminous all day.

The formula is light enough to wear under your favourite mascara for extra volume, but the soft black shade means that you can use it alone for subtle definition. When it’s applied over your favourite mascara, it adds a lightweight layer of extra support, giving you water-resistant lashes, and helping to reduce smudging and flaking. The gently curved brush adds extra curl and lift.

So, how should you be using it?

Use it alone for a tint if you want:

•A long-lasting natural look, even overnight
•Subtle curl, length and volume
•Smudge-resistant, flake-proof wear
•Conditioned lashes
Use it as a primer to amplify if you want:
•To create a longwearing foundation for your favourite mascara
•Reduce flaking and smudging
•Prepare the lashes with conditioners for optimum curling, lengthening and volumising
•Give pigments a clean canvas to improve the integrity of your mascara shade, making blacks and browns look richer and deeper, and colours pop

Use it at a topcoat to set:

•Adds a lightweight, water-resistant sealant to your favourite mascara
•Improves the wear of any mascara
•Helps reduce flaking and smudging
•Boosts your existing mascara with another layer of pigment

I’ve tried it on its own, and it’s a wee bit too subtle for me, but if you just want a hint of mascara look, then it’s great. I love it on the bottom lashes, as I never like to over-mascara those. And under or over the mascara, I guess it’s doing its thing! it does help with flaking and smudging, I’d say.

Is it a gimmicky product? Probably, a little bit, but if you’re a beauty fan, why not? Join the conversation on Twitter with the hashtag #LittleBlackPrimer
