Burt's Bees 30th Anniversary Facebook campaign

2 min read

Do you want Burt from Burt’s Bees to read out your birthday message to him and the bees? Yes? Well, get over to the Burt’s Bees UK Facebook page and get wishing them a very Happy Birthday! More on how to later. First, a short history on this lovely brand.

Burt’s Bees turns 30 this month and have come along way from 1984 when Burt met artist Roxanne Quimby when she was hitchhiking a ride home in Maine. Roxanne was intrigued by his story of honeybees and together they created a booming candle business from Burt’s leftover beeswax. Burt used to lable his hives ‘Burt’s Bees’ to prevent them being stolen – hence the brand name!

It was in 1991 when Roxanne and Burt began to think about making other products, and their lip balm was created. The first lip balm was made in a small clay pot, which eventually took residence in a small yellow tube. Every year more than 11 million Burt’s Bees lip balms make their way into the bags and pockets of people all around the world!

Burt is no longer a beekeeper, but he still lives on the same island on Maine where the brand started 30 years ago. His profound respect for, and belief in, nature, are reminders for what Burt’s Bees stands for to this day.

So, how to get involved for the 30th Birthday celebrations. Visit facebook.com/burtsbeesuk and tag a birthday message to the bees with #burtsbeeday. Then, tune in at 9pm UK time on September 17 to see if Burt reads your message in a live video broadcast on burtsbeeday.com
