L'Oreal Paris L'Extraordinaire Lipstick

So, when the new L’Oreal Paris L’Extraordinaire Lipstick landed on my desk, I half expected a team from YSL to arrive at the same time, screaming ‘copycats’! These are very similar to the YSL Glossy Stains. Except when you investigate them further, they’re not really.

These new lip colours from L’Oreal are not stains – they’re a sort of lipstick/gloss/balm hybrid, and they’re quite nice. It is like liquid lipstick, I guess. I do have to say that the intensity of colour in some of the promotional campaign images is WAY more than I achieved with these, even layering them on. I think there’s maybe been a wee bit of work done on those photos!

These ‘liquid lippies’, unlike standard lipsticks, are formulated with oils, not waxes. To be precise, Argan Oil, Lotus Flower Oil, Camelia Seed Oil and Rose Canina Fruit Oil. There are nine shades of L’Extraordinaire, from nudes to berries, to plums, to reds and corals. They come in a little tube, with a wand to apply, and here I am applying the lovely shade Fuchsia Drama 401 to my lips!

Rouge Soprano 301 is the red in the collection, but no matter how much I applied, I couldn’t get the level of bright red I wanted from it. I like the pink though, but am not sure if this formula beats a regular lipstick for me. It is very ‘balmy’ once on, but does have a good gloss. I’m just not sure if the colour is as bold as I like from a lipstick.

If you want to give them a go, they are £8.99 and available now at Boots.
